Chapter 685 Departure
When Finnegan spotted Eli and Warmie building a snowman in the yard, he instantly felt at ease.
He saw Warmie stumbling around in the snow, laughing and chasing Eli. They were having a blast.
Finnegan didn't blame Eli. He crouched down and called, "Warmie, come to Daddy."
It was freezing outside, and Finnegan worried about Warmie, whose nose was red from the cold.
"Daddy," Warmie called out in her sweet, childlike voice. She stumbled towards Finnegan, threw herself into his arms, and gave him a kiss. "Daddy."
Warmie's actions nearly melted Finnegan's heart.
He kissed her back, picked her up, and said to Eli, "It's too cold. Let's head inside. Warmie is still young and could get sick."
Eli nodded understandingly. "I'm sorry. She looked so cute, I brought her out to play. Is she your daughter? She's adorable. Can I play with her again?"
Finnegan hesitated but then said, "Okay."
He didn't want to upset Eli, but Warmie couldn't stay out in the cold frequently. He had to take her back inside.
Finnegan carried Warmie inside, and Eli followed. "Master, what's her name?"
"Warmie Abbott. You can call her Warmie," Finnegan replied.
"Warmie, what a nice name," Eli said. "Why don't I have a full name? I want one too."
Everyone at the monastery called him Eli. He didn't have a full name, just a nickname given by Francis when he was a infant.
"Let Francis give you a full name," Finnegan suggested. "It's a sign of respect."
Eli smiled. "I'll ask Francis for a full name tomorrow. You have such a cute daughter. Why don't you go home?"
Eli's question hit Finnegan hard. Even a five-year-old kid understood the need for a father. He looked at Warmie in his arms and said, "We'll be going home soon."
At that moment, Finnegan decided to take Warmie back to Yorkhaven and leave the monastery. From then on, Warmie would have her dad, even if she didn't have a mom.
Hearing that Finnegan and Warmie were about to leave, Eli felt a bit sad. He had just found a playmate, and now they would leave.
The next day, Finnegan told Francis about his decision to go home. Francis was pleased. He knew the monastery wasn't where Finnegan belonged and had hoped he would find peace and return home.
Lynn, who had been prepared to stay with Finnegan for a long time, was delighted by his decision. She immediately called Celia to share the good news.
When Celia heard that Finnegan was coming home, she cried with joy. "Lynn, thank you. Who knows how long Finnegan would have stayed at the monastery. When are you leaving?"
"In the next couple of days," Lynn said. "I'll call you before we come back."
"Okay, no rush. As long as he's willing to come back, there's no rush," Celia said, wiping her tears.
After hanging up, Celia happily shared the news with Susan and Jude. For the Abbott family, this was a great joy.
Finnegan stayed at the monastery for two more days before leaving. He didn't rush back to Yorkhaven. After saying goodbye to Francis, he decided to visit the seaside and the place where Ophelia had her accident.
This time, he took Warmie with him.
Lynn went along too. She wanted to see where Ophelia had her accident and pay her respects.
After they left, Eli went to find Warmie to play, only to discover they had already gone.
Eli ran to the monastery gate, but they were already far away. He looked down the mountain.
Other monks saw him and said, "Eli, Why are you standing here? Come back; it's cold."
Eli felt a twinge of frustration. "Warmie just left. I haven't even told her my name yet. I have a full name now. Francis gave it to me. I'm Elias Russell."
