Chapter 364 Ophelia Goes to the Orphanage

As soon as Magnus finished speaking, Ophelia shot him a sharp look and said sternly, "Magnus, are you still half-asleep this morning? How could Seraphina's death possibly be related to Finnegan? I'm going to pretend I didn't hear what you just said."

But Magnus continued, "A person dies quietly in prison, and there's no result from the investigation. Isn't that suspicious? Is it that they can't find out, or they didn't even try? I'm a lawyer, and I've seen too many cases like this. What's the truth? Power is the truth. Who else but Finnegan could have someone killed in prison?"

"Magnus." Ophelia's tone grew heavier. "What's wrong with you today? If you suspect him, you're suspecting me. What are you trying to say in front of Seraphina's grave? What are you trying to prove?"

"I'm just reasonably suspicious!" Magnus softened his tone a bit upon seeing Ophelia's anger. "I'm going back to my hometown tomorrow, Ophelia. Take care of yourself."

"Magnus, what do you mean?" Ophelia's mood soured instantly. "Are you sure you want to go back to your hometown with them?"
Seraphina was dead, and Magnus was leaving. In just a few months, everything had changed.

"I'm taking them back." Magnus said. "I might not come back. This city isn't for me. Without Finnegan's recommendation, I would not have a standing in the law firm. Sometimes I wonder, what was the point of all those years of study? In the end, it doesn't compare to a word from someone with power."

"All those years of study were indeed a waste." Ophelia said coldly. "If you want to go back to your hometown, go ahead. I won't stop you."
She no longer had the energy to deal with these matters. She just wanted to give birth to her child safely.
Too many things had happened recently, leaving her exhausted.
Every effort she made failed.

Magnus looked at Ophelia, hesitating to speak. "Ophelia, Seraphina died so mysteriously. Even if she was wrong, did she deserve to die? Her crime doesn't warrant death."
"Do you think I wanted Seraphina to die?" Ophelia's emotions were on the verge of breaking. "No one expected her to die. None of this was foreseen."

Seeing Ophelia's eyes redden, Magnus lowered his head. "I'm sorry, I'm not blaming you, Ophelia. I can't accept it. The three of us were once so close, even though we were poor. We used to meet up for meals, chats, and drinks. We faced difficulties together. We all came out of the orphanage and have known each other for over twenty years."

As Magnus spoke, his eyes grew moist.
He wiped his eyes and said, "I'm leaving. Take care."

Ophelia stood in the cemetery, watching Magnus leave.
The three of them had once been as close as siblings, but now they were separated by life and death, each going their own way.

Ophelia knew that Magnus had never considered returning to his hometown before Seraphina's incident. He changed his mind because of Seraphina.
No matter what Seraphina had done, it all vanished with her death. Some bonds are indelible.
Ophelia looked at Seraphina's tombstone, took a deep breath, and glanced at the sky.
Seraphina had been hating her until she died, and their over twenty years of sisterhood now seemed like a joke.

Ophelia left the cemetery. In the parking lot, Finnegan was waiting for her.
Finnegan wouldn't attend Seraphina's funeral, but he cared about Ophelia's safety.

On the way home, it started to rain.
Ophelia leaned against the car window, feeling down, while Finnegan played a piece of soothing instrumental music to lift her spirits.

Back at Rose Garden, Ophelia walked in to find a stranger in the house, with Atticus also present.
The stranger had a cool demeanor and was dressed in athletic wear, clean and efficient.

"Ophelia, Finnegan." Atticus said respectfully, "This is Tate Sinclair, the bodyguard I selected. She's highly skilled and more than capable of ensuring Ophelia's safety."

Tate nodded to Finnegan and Ophelia. "Hello, I'm Tate."

Ophelia had yet to be informed about the bodyguard so she glanced at Finnegan.

Finnegan said, "It's not safe lately. You're pregnant and need to be extra careful. From now on, Tate will be responsible for your safety, which will put my mind at ease."
As Sybil and Seraphina were both dead, and there was no evidence to pinpoint a suspect, Ophelia needed a bodyguard indeed.

Ophelia didn't object and agreed, saying to Tate, "Thank you."

"It's my job." Tate said, not saying much.

After settling the bodyguard, Finnegan took Atticus back to the company.

As soon as Finnegan left, Ophelia said to Tate, "Can you drive? Take me out."

"Yes." Tate replied. "Where to?"

"The orphanage."
