Chapter 288 Increase in Price

Other wealthy mothers-in-law may prefer grandsons, but Celia liked granddaughters more.
After knowing Ophe's pregnancy, she had been envisioning dressing up a beautiful granddaughter like a little princess and buying her pretty dresses.
Jude, aware of his wife's desires, asked, "If Ophe gave birth to a girl, would you stop causing trouble and let them be together? It that true?"
Celia retorted, "She needs to be lucky enough to have a granddaughter. If not, I still won't agree. The thought of Ophe, with no background, being my daughter-in-law makes me uncomfortable. She's only after our son's money."
Jude chuckled, "Are you afraid that our family will be ruined by Ophe? Our son can earn money, and you haven't spent all of it in all these years. Ophe won't make a difference."
Celia, giving him a blaming glance, displeased and retorted, "Who's been squandering the family's wealth?"
Jude replied, "It's me. I've been fortunate in my life. I relied on my parents when I was young, and now I rely on my son. When our grandchildren become successful, I'll let them take care of me."
This arrangement had been made clear for generations in the Abbott family. Jude wouldn't work or make money. His son would support him, while his grandchildren would also support him in the future.
Celia scolded, "You have no shame expecting your granddaughter to support you."
Jude laughed. "That's good fortune. Now, please leave. I want to take a shower. If you want to know about your daughter-in-law's check-up, call her yourself."
"Ophe still hasn't called me 'Mom' and says that the consultation fee is $250 per session. I won't ask. She's too proud."
"Is that what Ophe really said?" Jude was amused. "You've finally met your match. Our son found a good wife."
Celia punched Jude's shoulder. "You're justlaughing at me."
"Is $250 expensive compared to your granddaughter?" Jude asked. "You don't even give Ophe a chance to change her mind. Can she still call you 'Mom'? Both my mom and I paid the fee, then Ophe called me 'Dad' and my mom 'Grandma'. If you want to hold your granddaughter, you'd better give in early. Don't wait until Ophe raises the price, and then you'll regret it."
"I won't give in to Ophe." Celia said.
The next day, Celia heard Finnegan's voice downstairs as soon as she got up.
She thought she was mistaken and nudged Jude beside her. "Listen, isn't that Finnegan coming back?"
Jude, still half-asleep, replied, "It's early in the morning. Are you still half-asleep? How could our son come back? He should be at the company at this time."
Celia felt something was off and went downstairs in her clothes, happening to see Finnegan heading to the backyard.
"Finnegan," Celia called out and followed him to the backyard.
In the backyard, Oscar was fishing in the pond with a bamboo pole, but there was no hook on the line.
Oscar looked like a fool, fishing by the pond.
Finnegan stood not far away, watching for a while. Celia caught up and said, "Why did you come to see this fool so early? Have you had breakfast? Why are you come here alone? Isn't Ophe with you?"
Although she didn't admit that Ophe was his daughter-in-law, she had already subconsciously admitted that Ophe was Finnegan's wife, which was enough to show how conflicted Celia was.
"When I left, Ophe was still sleeping." Finnegan picked up a stone from the ground and deliberately threw it near Oscar. The stone splashed water, hitting Oscar's face and clothes.
Oscar was so frightened that he panicked and shouted, "It's raining."
Oscar threw the fishing rod, holding his head in his hands, looked silly and foolish.
Celia, with a look of disdain, said, "Look at that fool. I don't know what Jude was thinking, bringing him back."
Finnegan walked toward Oscar, looking down at him.
'Acting crazy and stupid.' He pondered. He really wanted to know who was behind Oscar.
'With Oscar's intelligence, he couldn't come up with such a plan.' He mused.
Finnegan stared at Oscar, making him feel a lot of pressure. Finnegan was not Jude, who could be easily fooled.
Oscar stole a glance at Finnegan and asked foolishly, "Who are you?"
"I'm here to bring you something good." Finnegan saw Sawyer Lambert, the gardener, weeding in the flower bed not far away.
Finnegan shouted, "Sawyer, bring me a few earthworms."
After boss's baby, she Escape
