Chapter 638 I Like You
Caspian wanted to meet Tate. Over the past few days, he had come to a realization and wanted to ask Tate something in person.
"No problem, I can arrange that for you," Finnegan said. "I'll try to set it up within the next couple of days."
"Thanks, Finnegan." Caspian felt a lot more at ease.
Finnegan reminded him, "Given Tate's current situation, she might be in prison for ten or eight years."
"Finnegan, I find it amazing myself. How could I care about someone so cold? Honestly, I just want to see her, to fulfill a wish of mine." Caspian knew he was being sentimental. At least, Tate had never shown any signs of liking him.
Finnegan didn't say much more. They were all adults, and sometimes love could be a fleeting moment or a delayed realization.
In Prison.
Tate sat on her bed, looking out the window. She didn't know what she was thinking, but at this moment, she felt very calm.
Thanks to Raymond's care, Tate's treatment inside was quite good. Even her prison cell was the best, with a small window to look outside.
Aria lived in the next room, and the two could only see each other during the day when they were out in the yard.
They had confessed everything they knew, and Aria had taken on most of the blame for Tate. Even if they were sentenced, Tate wouldn't get a heavy punishment.
First of all, Aria and Tate were also victims. They were both abducted by Moonlight Gate when they were young and trained to be like this.
Tate rested when she was tired, had food when she was hungry, and didn't have to do anything. She didn't have to be constantly on edge. She felt that, apart from the lack of freedom, she could adapt to this life.
Because the days in the training camp were even harder.
Compared to this prison, the training camp was the real prison.
There, they were in a place without sunlight, undergoing ten years of closed training, witnessing bloodshed and sacrifice every day, constantly fighting.
Tate didn't even dare to sleep too deeply, fearing that someone might take her life.
Every companion around her could be an enemy, ready to deliver a fatal blow at any unexpected moment.
They only had six hours of sleep each day, and the rest of the time was spent in hellish training.
To become a qualified female assassin, there was one final test.
Tate unknowingly fell asleep. She didn't know how long she had slept. The day turned to night and then to day again.
"Tate, someone is here to see you." the guard's voice came.
Tate thought it was Raymond. But when she was brought to the visiting room and saw Caspian, she was a bit surprised.
"Why is it you?"
Seeing Caspian, Tate couldn't help but think of the things that happened to him when she had amnesia.
She thought of that night when she touched something she shouldn't have in the bushes, of Caspian thinking she was being followed, dressing up as a woman to divert the stalker, lending her money, and arranging a job for her.
That was the first time Tate felt cared for by a man.
"Are you okay?" Caspian was a bit nervous. "I asked Finnegan to arrange this visit. Don't worry, I've hired the best lawyer for you. You can tell them everything you know and try to get a lenient sentence. If you need anything, just tell me, and I'll bring it to you."
Caspian said a lot in one breath. Tate just looked at him, listening without interrupting.
She was surprised that Caspian would come to see her and care so much about her.
When Caspian finished, Tate remembered what Karen had said and asked Caspian, "Do you like me?"
Her tone was surprisingly composed, as if she were inquiring about something as mundane as whether he had eaten or how the weather was.
It seemed that whether it was true or not, it was like someone else's business to her; she was an outsider.
Hearing this, Caspian blushed a bit, his heart skipped a beat, feeling a bit guilty.
Caspian nervously scratched his head, then, as if summoning all his courage, seriously asked, "What if I said yes?"
Tate was silent.
She frowned slightly, not knowing how to respond.
Caspian continued, "Tate, I like you. Maybe this isn't the right place or time to say this, but I really like you. After you were taken by the police, I felt very unsettled and really wanted to see you. Now that I've seen you, I feel at ease."
This was the first time Tate had been confessed to. Her heart felt like a calm lake into which a small stone had been thrown, creating ripples.
Tate thought of something, and her face instantly turned cold. "Don't like me. Don't come again. I don't like you."
With that, Tate coldly stood up and went back inside. Caspian was a bit at a loss, not expecting such a strong reaction from Tate.
Through the iron window, Caspian shouted at Tate's back, "Tate, I really like you. Believe me, I will save you."
