Chapter 508 Taking the Blame

Once thought to be a person with nothing, now transformed into the most prestigious individual, Natalie's gaze was fixed on Wilder. Wilder also looked at Natalie, then said to Ophelia and the police, "I'd like to have a private chat with Natalie."

As Wilder spoke, the police naturally had no hesitation. Ophelia also walked away. Niamh was taken out by the police, leaving only Natalie and Wilder in the hospital room.

Wilder exuded inherent nobility, with a robust stature, deep features, and eyes that exuded a captivating romance. Wilder was the kind of person who made others want to have a passionate love affair. Even in his fifties, he still retained his charm.

Natalie had once been infatuated with Wilder. She wanted to compete with Dovie, to snatch anything that belonged to Dovie, but Wilder's heart was fervent, and his love was very pure.

When Wilder sat down, Natalie felt ashamed and unable to meet his gaze, her self-esteem battered by her current emaciated, sickly state.

"Long time no see," Wilder looked at Natalie and said. "I heard you were sick, so I came to see you."

This opening remark caught Natalie off guard. She turned her eyes toward Wilder and asked, "Are you really Wilder? My brother-in-law?" Even after confirming, she wanted to ask again and hear it from his lips.

"I am," Wilder said, spreading his hands. "Ophelia told me some things about you. I have already knew what happened. Dovie, such a kind person, ended up dying at your hands. Dovie loved you. She must have been very sad and desperate."

Avoiding eye contact, Natalie retorted, "You came here just to tell me this? Dovie is already dead. Why bring this up now? I'm in prison. Even if I die, I accept it. It should be you, the betrayer, who should make Dovie sad. She died, and only then did you return. You haven't come back in over twenty years. You have your own family now. You betrayed her and the pure love you claimed to have."

"I never betrayed her," Wilder said, looking at Natalie. "I just want to know why Dovie got sick. I asked the doctor earlier. Your illness is similar to Dovie's. This isn't a hereditary disease in your family. Dovie died, and I must know the truth. I won't let her death be in vain."

"How would I know why Dovie got sick?" Natalie stubbornly replied. "I tampered with the IV line. I caused her death. I'll pay with my life." As she spoke, Natalie coughed violently, coughing up blood.

With all her organs failing, Natalie was beyond recovery. She was waiting to die, yet she was afraid to die. She worried about what would happen to Niamh if she died.

Suddenly, Natalie grabbed Wilder's arm and pleaded, "Wilder, take care of Niamh for me. I deserve to die but Niamh is innocent. She's my only daughter. Please help me. It's all my fault. I was jealous of Dovie, and that's why I ended up killing her." Natalie hoped to use Wilder's kindness to secure a future for Niamh.

"Tell me, why did Dovie get sick? Who did this to her?" Wilder removed Natalie's hand. "I promised to uncover the real cause of her death."

"I caused her death. I've confessed. As for why Dovie got sick, I truly don't know," Natalie pleaded. "For the sake of my impending death, please spare Niamh. Ophelia holds a grudge against Niamh. She won't let Niamh off. Niamh is young and naive. Please don't hold it against her."

"You know who it is in your heart. You're covering up for that person." Wilder's deep gaze locked onto Natalie. "Once the police find evidence, I won't spare anyone."

As Wilder had returned to City N, besides recognizing Ophelia, he also aimed to uncover the true cause of Dovie's death.

Ophelia would naturally inform Wilder of the entire incident, and Wilder had his judgments. Wilder found it hard to believe that Niamh, who had been by Dovie's side for so many years and called her "mom" for over a decade, could be so heartless as to kill her.
