Chapter 569 Setting a Trap

As Finnegan finished speaking, disappointment spread across everyone's faces.

Susan wobbled and steadied herself with her cane, a scene that did not escape Lloyd's notice.

Ophelia's eyes dimmed momentarily, but she quickly smiled and comforted, "It's okay. We can try again. No rush, Finnegan. Don't stress yourself out."

Celia and Jude were also disappointed but couldn't show it. Celia said, "Finnegan, no rush. Ophelia is right."

Caspian also offered comfort, knowing that failure was more likely and they had been mentally prepared for it.

James spoke up, "I need to do another check-up on Mr. Abbott. We need to go to the examination room."

Ophelia said, "Alright, no problem."

In the examination room, no one else was allowed in.

James then carefully examined Finnegan's eyes, testing their light sensitivity. "The recovery looks good."

Finnegan, having no need to hide here, said, "Thank you for playing along with me."

Before the surgery, Finnegan had already discussed with James that regardless of the outcome, they would only announce the failure.

James said, "It's not a big deal. I'm just glad my reputation isn't tarnished. But remember, being blind and regaining sight are two different states. Be careful."

"Having been blind for so long, I know how to continue pretending. Please keep this a secret," Finnegan said.

"Alright," James agreed, not asking further. Someone like Finnegan must have his reasons for pretending to be blind.

James was aware of that Finnegan had been attacked in an accident and went missing, which caused quite a stir.

James wouldn't ask about the specifics. To save his life and to owe a favor, playing dumb was the best option.

When Finnegan left the examination room, James personally escorted him back to the ward. To help Finnegan maintain his act and avoid detection, James specifically instructed the family, "Mr. Abbott's eyes should avoid light, especially ultraviolet light, which is harmful and not conducive to the next surgery. It's best if he wears sunglasses."

The family would certainly follow the doctor's orders.

Ophelia said, "Thank you. I'll have someone bring sunglasses right away to keep his eyes from being exposed to light."

Once everything was arranged, Celia and Jude were also called back by Ophelia, no longer needing to stay and watch.

Lloyd accompanied Susan as they left together.

On the way back, Lloyd tried to comfort Susan, "Mom, don't worry. Finnegan will be fine."

Susan sighed, "I don't know what's wrong with our family. Finnegan has had such a rough time. I'll go to church and pray. It seems like Finnegan is cursed."

Lloyd showed his concern. "Mom, I'll go with you."

Susan asked, "Did you put away the things I gave you last time? What exactly are you here for this time?"

"My parents' belongings are well kept," Lloyd said. "Mom, I was young and reckless back then. This time, I just wanted to see you without other intentions. Don't overthink it."

Susan looked at Lloyd, her cloudy eyes filled with love and complexity. "It's good that you're back. I heard Jude found a match for you. Paula seems nice. You're not young anymore. You should grasp this opportunity."

"Mom, at my age, there is no need to think about such things." Lloyd laughed. "I appreciate Jude's good intentions."

"Precisely because of your age, you need to find someone to live with you. When you're really old and lose the ability to support youself, who will take care of you?" Susan said. "Look at Celia and Jude, they've been loving each other for their whole lives, growing old together. That's the kind of life ordinary people should have. You should learn from them."

"Celia and Jude are indeed loving," Lloyd said but he sneered in his mind.

'Loving, huh?' he thought.

He would make the Abbott family fall apart and see if Celia and Jude could still be loving.

Didn't Susan think Paula was nice?

Then he would make Paula the daughter-in-law of the Abbott family.

After sending Susan back, Lloyd went out and called Paula, "Paula, are you free tonight..."

After arranging with Paula, Lloyd called Jude, "Jude, I need your help with something tonight."

After boss's baby, she Escape
