Chapter 369 What Foods Are Mutually Beneficial or Harmful?
Natalie overheard this conversation and felt a bit panicked.
'Was Ophelia planning to look for her biological parents?' She thought.
Natalie hid behind a pillar in the corridor next to the pavilion, continuing to eavesdrop.
Tate was very alert and had already noticed Natalie eavesdropping. She signaled Ophelia with her eyes.
Ophelia glanced at the pillar with her peripheral vision. Natalie wasn't hiding very well. Her feet were sticking out.
Ophelia's intention today was to convey to Natalie that she was going to look for her biological parents. Originally, she wanted to tell Natalie through Dovie, but now that Natalie had overheard, it was just as well.
Hearing that Ophelia was going to look for her biological parents, Dovie felt a myriad of emotions. She didn't even know where her biological daughter was.
She didn't know if her daughter was doing well or even if she was still alive.
"There are no parents in the world who don't love their children." Dovie said. "Maybe your parents are looking for you too. Growing up in an orphanage must have been tough. If your parents knew, they would surely be heartbroken."
Dovie knew nothing about her own daughter's whereabouts. Her daughter was too young when she went missing. And over twenty years had passed, she didn't even know what she looked like now. In a vast sea of people, she didn't know where to find her.
Ophelia said, melancholy, "Maybe. But not all parents in the world love their children. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many orphans. Many things are hard to understand. For example, Dovie, you love Niamh so much. No matter what mistakes she makes, you forgive her, even though she's not your biological daughter."
Ophelia's words shocked Dovie and also made Natalie, who was eavesdropping, turn pale.
'Did Dovie already know about Niamh's background?'
'Then why did Dovie still save Niamh? Why didn't she expose her?'
Natalie was confused and panicked because she was the one who brought Niamh back. Dovie knew Niamh wasn't her biological daughter but said nothing. What was her intention? It was hard to guess.
In the pavilion, Dovie hesitated but ultimately said nothing. "It's the Parks Family that owes you."
Having achieved her goal, Ophelia stayed briefly. "Dovie, it's getting late. I'll head back now. You don't look well. Take care of yourself."
"Alright." Dovie got up to see Ophelia off.
Ophelia and Tate left the Parks Family and got into the car. Tate said, "That person was eavesdropping behind the pillar the whole time."
"That person is Dovie's sister and the reason for my visit. It's better that she heard." Ophelia said, feeling a bit tired. After the rain, the temperature had dropped. She took a blanket and covered her belly. "Let's go back."
Whether it was Sybil's death or Seraphina's death, Ophelia hadn't given up on finding the truth.
In fact, Ophelia knew the truth in her heart. She just lacked evidence.
'Finnegan had cut off two of Niamh's fingers but hadn't gotten a single truth out of her. It would be even harder to find evidence in the future.' She thought.
After Ophelia left, Dovie went back to her room to rest. She had just laid down when Natalie came in with some fruit. "Dovie, I heard you weren't feeling well today. What's wrong? Did you go to the hospital?"
"It's nothing serious. I'll be fine after a couple of days of rest." Dovie sat up. "Has Niamh not come back yet? Where did she go this time?"
"She's learned her lesson and won't cause any more trouble. Dovie, don't worry too much." Natalie put down the fruit plate, looking like she wanted to say something, but hesitated.
Natalie really wanted to ask why Dovie didn't expose the truth when she knew it, but she didn't dare to.
Dovie noticed that Natalie had something to say and asked, "Is there something you want to say?"
Natalie forced a smile. "No, Niamh's wedding is being prepared. Dovie, you're not in good health, so don't worry about it. I'll take care of it."
"Alright, you're Niamh's aunt. It's your responsibility to handle this." Dovie's words were meaningful. "Go on, I'll rest for a while."
"Okay." Natalie ultimately said nothing, pretending not to know.
Niamh came back very late. When she got home, she first went to see Dovie, acting obedient and attentive, but she wasn't as talkative and willful as before.
Niamh went back to her room and took a book from the shelf titled 'What Foods Are Mutually Beneficial or Harmful.'
