Chapter 639 Losing Virginity
Caspian kept staring at Tate's back. After hearing Caspian's confession, Tate paused for a moment before going inside.
It wasn't until Tate's figure disappeared from sight that Caspian looked away.
Caspian felt a bit defeated. Even though he knew he might be rejected, Tate's reaction still made him feel frustrated.
Back in the prison, Tate struggled to calm her racing thoughts.
She had never really yearned for love in her life. Even surviving was a luxury for her.
If she hadn't met Ophelia, she would still be that numb assassin, not planning for herself.
Caspian's words kept echoing in Tate's ears. After an unknown amount of time, Raymond came in. He unlocked the door and brought her some fruit and snacks.
"Tay, have some fruit. I just bought it," Raymond said, sitting down without any pretense.
Only Tate's room had a table and chairs.
Tate glanced at the snacks on the table and said, "Don't buy these next time. If someone with ill intentions uses it against you, it could affect your future."
"Don't worry, it's fine," Raymond said. "Just eat. By the way, did Caspian come to see you?"
Caspian and Tate's meeting was naturally recorded, as per the rules inside, so Raymond knew about Caspian's confession.
Raymond knew Caspian liked Tate, which gave him a bit of a headache because not long ago, Barbara had asked him to persuade Karen to stop chasing after Caspian all the time.
"Yes," Tate said indifferently, taking a bite of the fruit. "What's up?"
"No, I was just asking," Raymond said, feeling awkward about prying into Tate's emotional issues. "Now, Moonlight Gate is wanted globally. Rivonia and Country F are both hunting down Moonlight Gate members. Lloyd has also become an international fugitive. Your case will be heard next month, in a closed trial. The sentence will likely be three years."
This was already the best outcome Raymond could secure for Tate.
It was also thanks to Aria turning herself in and taking all the blame; otherwise, Tate would have to face more severe punishment.
"And Aria?" Tate asked. "How is she?"
Raymond hesitated before saying, "She will be sentenced to life imprisonment. If she behaves well, her sentence could be reduced."
He lied to Tate actually. With the lives Aria had taken, life imprisonment was impossible. He was worried Tate couldn't handle the truth, so he softened the blow.
Over time, Tate would forget, and when she eventually learned the truth about Aria, it wouldn't hurt as much.
Hearing that Aria could live, Tate breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."
"Tay, if you behave well, you can also get a reduced sentence and come home sooner," Raymond said. "I'll wait for you to come out and take you home. Mom always talks about you."
Tate had only met Barbara once, and that was her only memory of her mother.
"Okay," Tate nodded, hesitating. She wanted Raymond to pass a message to Barbara but didn't know what to say.
Raymond chatted with Tate for a while. As he was leaving, Tate said, "Raymond, bring me some books next time."
She needed something to pass the time.
"Sure, I'll bring them tomorrow," Raymond said, looking at Tate with a doting expression. He couldn't help but ask, "Tay, what do you think of Caspian?"
"We're not very familiar," Tate said expressionlessly. "And we're not from the same world."
Raymond understood and didn't ask further.
After Raymond left, Tate had no appetite for the snacks. She looked out the window, her memory drifting back to the training camp.
To become a qualified female assassin, the final step was to destroy one's virginity.
Every female assassin in Moonlight Gate had their virginity destroyed on the day they became qualified, arranged by Lloyd.
Only by losing their purity could they truly become ruthless, turning into a sharp blade.
This was why Tate rejected Caspian. They were from two different worlds.
Even if she were to be released, a criminal record would follow her.
The influential Hawthorne family in Yorkhaven would never accept someone with such a stain.
Tate's personality decided that she won't accept Caspian.
