Chapter 654 Being Caught
Susan, her appetite waning, set the chicken leg aside, took a cleansing sip of water, and pondered, "Was I too harsh on Lloyd in his youth, leading to his current demeanor?"
Observing Susan's shift in demeanor, Ophelia reassured her, "It's not your fault. You raised him with boundless kindness. His decisions shaped his path."
"Ophelia, is Lloyd going to be executed?" Susan looked at Ophelia, seeking an answer.
In fact, everyone already knew the answer in their hearts.
It's really hard to make such a tough decision against one's own family.
Ophelia pressed her lips together and remained silent. Susan waved her hand and turned to play with Warmie. "Warmie is so cute. In the future, the Abbott family will depend on Warmie."
As people got older, they paved the way for the next generation.
This was also why Susan could make such a tough decision against Lloyd.
If Lloyd didn't face justice, the younger members of the Abbott family would be in danger.
Warmie liked Susan very much and reached out to grab Susan's hand.
Looking at the beautiful and adorable Warmie, Susan felt a bit more at ease.
Warmie was chubby and loved to laugh, endearing to everyone who saw her.
With Warmie by her side, Susan wouldn't overthink things.
Night fell.
Susan went to bed early. Ophelia watched Susan fall asleep before returning to her own room.
She was also staying at Verdant Villa tonight.
Warmie was asleep in the next room. Ophelia sent Finnegan a message to report the situation here, then went back to her room to rest.
As she opened the door, she saw a shadow quickly pass by the window. It was so fast that she didn't have time to see it clearly; it was just a flash.
Gathering her courage, Ophelia quickly went to the window and opened it to look outside. Everything was calm and quiet; there was nothing there.
The wind rustled the branches, casting shadows. Ophelia thought she might have imagined it. Maybe it's just the branches reflected on the window.
Standing by the window a moment longer, Ophelia confirmed the absence of any disturbance outside. With Warmie peacefully asleep in bed, she found solace in the quiet, closed the window, dimmed the lights, and settled in for the night's rest.
Ophelia was a bit scared, so she left a nightlight on, which would also be convenient for nighttime feedings.
As the night deepened, the Abbott family mansion grew quiet. The guests had all left, and Jude was keeping watch over the coffin.
Finnegan smoked a cigarette, staring outside the courtyard.
He knew Lloyd had definitely arrived in Yorkhaven; it was just a matter of when he would show himself.
"Dad, you go rest in the room. I'll keep watch," Finnegan said, taking a drag from his cigarette and walking over to Jude.
Jude wiped away his tears, his expression heavy with grief. "Grandma just passed, and I failed to honor her as I should have. I've been a source of worry for her throughout my life. I've fallen short as a son."
Jude had only recently started to become more diligent and familiar with the company's business.
As he spoke, Jude became even more sorrowful.
At that moment, Finnegan noticed a light from the villa across the way. A small white light had just swept across the Abbott family mansion.
"Dad, go rest," Finnegan said again, signaling to John with his eyes to help Jude inside.
The people from Moonlight Gate had arrived.
After Jude was taken back to his room, Finnegan was the only one left in the hall.
Due to Yorkhaven customs, when someone in the family passed away, the front door must remain open.
After glancing around, Finnegan deliberately walked away.
Not long after Finnegan left, a shadow leaped over the wall and sneaked into the hall.
From the silhouette, it was a man. As he stepped into the light, his face became clear—it was Lloyd.
Lloyd cautiously looked around before approaching the coffin and pushing it open.
Just as he was about to check if Susan was inside, Finnegan stepped out from the side.
"Lloyd, long time no see."
Finnegan's voice was cold as he stared at Lloyd.
Lloyd glanced inside the coffin; it was empty.
"Susan is alive. This was all a setup," Lloyd declared, his eyes glinting with icy resolve.
"We went to great lengths to get you to come back," Finnegan said coldly. "Turn yourself in."
As he finished speaking, the police rushed in from outside, led by Raymond.
