Chapter 531 Finding the Mastermind
Deacon was of great value. Ophelia had intended to ask about Deacon and Niamh's relationship today. Now, there was no chance.
Thinking of Oscar, Ophelia drove to the Abbott family's old mansion. Because of Finnegan's incident, Celia and Jude were in a state of distress, unable to eat or sleep at night.
Upon seeing Ophelia arrive, Susan asked anxiously, "Ophelia, any news of Finnegan?"
"Not yet," Ophelia said. "Grandma Susan, don't worry; he must be alive. Not finding him is the best news."
Others comforted Ophelia this way, and Ophelia had been comforting herself in the same manner, now using these words to comfort Susan.
"This time, Finnegan got into trouble. I feel it's unusual," Susan said. "I know whether Finnegan has offended anyone in recent years. But I don't think where should be such a kind of hostility."
"Grandma, I've been thinking all night. This matter is not as simple as it seems on the surface." Ophelia asked, "Is Oscar still in the backyard?"
Susan nodded. "He's locked in the back."
This meant that until Finnegan returned, Oscar wouldn't be able to leave the house.
"I'll go check on him and ask him a few things," Ophelia said.
"Ophelia, take care of yourself too," Susan said, very concerned for Ophelia. As soon as Ophelia entered, Susan noticed that she looked very unwell. It had been two days since Finnegan's incident, and Ophelia hadn't had a proper night's sleep.
Without saying anything, Ophelia went to the backyard and opened the door to Oscar's room.
Oscar, who was trying to climb out the window, immediately came down upon hearing the noise, pretending as if nothing had happened.
Ophelia didn't expose Oscar. She walked in and said, "I have a few questions for you. Your attitude will determine whether you stay here or in prison. Don't think that after ten years, the deaths in the car accident can't be traced back to you. I can easily find a reason to keep you in jail for stealing company seals and confidential documents."
Oscar knew Ophelia had the power as her background was too strong. Whether they could find out about Finnegan's situation was one thing, but a single sentence from her could send him to jail. That was a whole different story.
Oscar shrank back. "What do you want to know?"
Ophelia sat down on a chair, looking coldly at Oscar, and asked, "How long have you been working with Deacon?"
After a moment of hesitation, Oscar said, "It's been two years. I only recently found out why Deacon targeted Finnegan and Ophelia. I really didn't know before."
Naturally, Ophelia believed that Oscar didn't know before. If he did, he wouldn't have done so many foolish things.
Ophelia continued to ask, "What's the relationship between Niamh and Deacon?"
"Niamh?" Oscar shook his head. "I don't know. I haven't known Deacon for long. He approached me first. I don't even know if Deacon knows Niamh."
Oscar usually didn't meet Deacon privately. Their dealings were all about how to bring down Finnegan.
"You don't know?" Ophelia was a bit skeptical. "Niamh has been seen entering and leaving Deacon's CC Club multiple times. She and Deacon have a complex relationship. How could you not know?"
"I really don't know about this," Oscar said. "You know about the grudge between Finnegan and me. Finnegan sent my dad to prison. We share the same last name, but Grandma favors Finnegan, and I have nothing. I feel unfairly treated." He was quite honest.
Ophelia continued, "Do you know who's behind Deacon?"
"I really don't know..."
Before Oscar could finish, Ophelia gave him a cold look, indicating that he would be useless to her if he knew nothing.
Quickly changing his tune, Oscar remembered something and said, "Once I overheard Deacon on the phone, calling the other person Nine, very respectfully. Maybe that person is the one behind Deacon."
Oscar actually didn't know. He was guessing randomly.
"Nine…" Ophelia muttered the name, considering this new lead.
"Finnegan is missing, and you don't seem worried at all," Oscar said boldly. "You're more concerned about Deacon than finding Finnegan?"
Ophelia didn't explain anything to Oscar as it was her own business. She believed that finding the Nine would solve all the mysteries. The person silencing Deacon should be related to this Nine.
Standing up, Ophelia left. She took a glance at Warmie, just a few months old, who knew nothing, happily playing with toys after drinking milk.
Ophelia whispered to Warmie, "Warmie, your dad will be okay, right?"
Warmie giggled happily.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the village, Finnegan woke up from a nightmare, dreaming of the car exploding.
When he opened his eyes, he was still surrounded by darkness, unable to tell if it was night or day.
