Chapter 27 Business Trip With Finnegan

Ophelia stepped a bit further inside the elevator, a small gesture noticed by Finnegan.

Atticus, who was with Finnegan, greeted her with a smile, "Ms. Sinclair, good morning."

"Mr. Abbott, good morning," Ophelia replied, still with her head down. "Mr. Montgomery, good morning."

As the elevator doors closed, Ophelia tried to make herself as inconspicuous as possible, quietly grumbling about why Finnegan wasn't using the executive elevator and instead squeezing into the elevator with the employees.

The elevator reached the twelfth floor, where several colleagues stood awaiting. Seeing Finnegan inside, none dared to enter.

No one would dare to share an elevator with Finnegan.

The employees greeted in unison, "Good morning, Mr. Abbott."

Finnegan stood there in his crisp suit, exuding a noble and clear temperament, effortlessly commanding respect.

Atticus got off on the twelfth floor. The moment Atticus stepped out, Ophelia panicked. She couldn't bear being alone with Finnegan.

Ophelia quietly followed Atticus out, trying to avoid alone time with Finnegan.

"Ms. Sinclair."

Finnegan's chilling voice came from behind. "You come to my office with me."

Ophelia, being singled out, felt a chill down her spine.

"Yes, Mr. Abbott." Ophelia walked back in silently.

The elevator doors closed, and the elevator continued its ascent to the thirty-eighth floor where the CEO's office was located.

For the first time, Ophelia felt the elevator was moving too slowly.

"Ms. Sinclair." Finnegan's deep voice broke the silence. "I heard you went to the hospital yesterday. Are you feeling unwell?"

"No, no problem." Ophelia's heart raced, and a lie came out effortlessly. "An old issue, gastritis."

Finnegan's brows were tinged with a hint of frost. "Ms. Sinclair, are you afraid of me?"

"Not at all." Ophelia lifted her head, gathering the courage to meet his gaze.

Though she maintained a facade of calm, her heart was racing with nerves.

Finnegan glanced at her before the elevator opened. He strode out toward his office without another word.

Ophelia followed.

Once in the office, Ophelia asked, "Mr. Abbott, what do you need me to do?"

"Make a cup of coffee." Finnegan's tone was neutral.

Ophelia complied, knowing his preference.

While she was making the coffee, Finnegan had already started working.

For the past month, Ophelia spent more of her time in the secretarial department, with little interaction with Finnegan.

Now, being alone with him at such a close distance, and just after finding out she was pregnant, made her anxious. Yet, deep within her, subtle feelings were quietly growing, unbeknownst to herself.

Ophelia finished making the coffee and brought it to Finnegan, who took a sip and continued with his work without looking at her.

With no further instructions from him, Ophelia busied herself by tidying up the bookshelf and cleaning the desk.

Just as she finished, Finnegan stood up and said, "Come with me to Starview."

"Starview?" Ophelia was confused. "I'll arrange for the driver and book the tickets right away."

There was no mention of a trip to Starview on Finnegan's schedule.

"No need, you'll drive today." Finnegan didn't plan on bringing anyone else.

Driving from Yorkhaven to Starview would take three hours, while by train, it was only an hour away.

"Mr. Abbott, I haven't gotten my driver's license yet." Ophelia had acquired many certifications, but she had never taken the driving test.

Given her income, owning a car in Yorkhaven seemed difficult. Taking the subway was more convenient and economical, so she hadn't thought about getting a license.

Finnegan frowned, obviously not expecting this.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ophelia added, "I'll sign up for the test right away."

"I'll drive." Finnegan took the car keys and walked straight out.

Ophelia followed him out without saying anything else.

The two arrived at the underground parking lot. Instead of using the company car, Finnegan chose his personal one.

Finnegan had many cars, some parked at the company, and others at Orchid Garden and the Abbott's Mansion.

Ophelia's gaze inadvertently caught the license plate, a local plate with a rare number MM.

She suddenly remembered what her neighbor had said. The car that took Seraphina away had the same plate number.

"Get in," Finnegan's voice snapped Ophelia back to reality.

She opened the rear door, and was about to get in when Finnegan said, without a change in expression, "Sit in the front."

Obliging, Ophelia moved to the front seat, buckled her seatbelt, and asked, "Mr. Abbott, what are we going to Starview for?"
After boss's baby, she Escape
