Chapter 491 Drawing People In
Deacon stayed in Stone Village for a long time before leaving, and Finnegan knew precisely how long he stayed.
The person Finnegan sent to watch Deacon kept a close eye on him.
Finnegan wasn't surprised to learn that Deacon was behind Oscar. He had suspected as much.
All signs pointed to Deacon coming for him, but Finnegan couldn't figure out why there was no bad blood between them, which puzzled him.
The next day, Celia had the nanny prepare a table full of food, and breakfast was very lavish.
Finnegan sat down and said to John, "Go to the backyard and bring Oscar to have breakfast with us."
Upon hearing this, Ophelia, holding Warmie, subconsciously glanced at Finnegan.
Finnegan wouldn't just randomly invite Oscar to join them for breakfast. What was this guy up to?
Upon hearing this, Celia immediately said, "Finnegan, why bother bringing a fool to have breakfast with us?"
Jude, on the other hand, was quite happy. "Let Oscar join us for breakfast. We are all family."
Finnegan spoke, and Celia only complained a bit, which didn't have much effect.
Moreover, even Susan chimed in, "Bring him over. It's nice for the family to have breakfast together."
It was rare for the whole family to sit together for breakfast.
"Okay." John went to the backyard.
Soon, John brought Oscar over.
Oscar looked silly and timid. He smiled foolishly at everyone, only stopping to eat his fingers when he was not smiling.
Ophelia was quite impressed. It wasn't easy for an average person to pretend so well.
Only Finnegan, Ophelia, and Susan knew that Oscar was pretending.
Susan didn't expose him either. She waved at Oscar. "Oscar, come sit over here."
Looking timid, Oscar carefully moved over.
Jude smiled and said, "Oscar, don't be afraid. We are all family. This is Finnegan. This is Ophelia and Warmie. What do you want to eat? I'll serve you."
Oscar smiled foolishly, looking hungry, and pointed to the egg custard on the table. "Uncle Jude, I want to eat this."
"Alright, I'll get it for you." Jude took care of Oscar and brought him a bowl of egg custard.
Oscar started eating with a spoon, unaware of the meaning behind Finnegan's invitation to the table for breakfast. He had just found out that Finnegan and Ophelia had returned.
Oscar had planned to have Jude take him to the company today so he could steal the seal, but with Finnegan back, it seemed getting the seal would be challenging.
While eating, Oscar suddenly heard Finnegan say to Susan, "Grandma Susan, why don't we have a doctor check Oscar's brain? I heard there's a very famous doctor in this field."
Upon hearing this, Oscar had a bad feeling. He didn't believe Finnegan was so kind as to arrange a doctor for him, especially when he wasn't sick. What if the doctor messed things up?
The doctor would create an illness out of nothing.
Susan said, "I think it's a good idea. How can someone keep acting foolish like this? The Abbott family doesn't raise useless people. If it can be cured, that's good. If not..."
Susan still needed to finish her sentence.
Oscar's heart skipped a beat. 'Is Susan giving up on me?' he thought.
After all, he was a descendant of the Abbott family. Susan was being too harsh.
Sure enough, Susan was biased, only liking Finnegan.
In fact, what Susan meant was to hint to Oscar that he should not pretend to be foolish forever. When the doctor came, he should 'slowly get better' on his own.
Finnegan said in a deep voice, "Alright, Grandma Susan, leave it to me. I'll have someone find a doctor."
Throughout breakfast, Oscar behaved properly, not causing any trouble. He just sat there foolishly smiling after eating, occasionally playing with his fingers or biting his clothes.
Susan couldn't bear to watch anymore. She had been a strong-willed person in her youth and couldn't tolerate her descendants being so useless.
She stood up and said, "I'm done eating. I'll go upstairs and rest for a while."
Celia stood up. "Mom, I'll take you upstairs."
Ophelia didn't say much, but she could sense that Susan was not happy.
After finishing their meal, Finnegan asked Ophelia to take Warmie back first and then asked Jude, "Dad, do you want to go to the company today?"
Jude usually didn't want to go, but since Finnegan suggested it, he agreed, "Sure."
Upon hearing that Jude was going to the company, Oscar, pretending to be clueless, grabbed Jude and coaxed, "I want to go too. I want to go out and play."
Jude said, "You stay at home. Oscar, behave."
Finnegan intervened, "If he wants to go, take him with us."
