Chapter 373 He Takes His Father's Surname
Dovie noticed Niamh's obedience, and in the past, she would have been very pleased. However, after discovering that Niamh was not her biological daughter, Dovie's feelings had somewhat changed.
"You should focus on the wedding. After all, it's a major life event, and you can't rely entirely on others' opinions. Go check out the wedding venue and see if anything is missing." Dovie declined Niamh's request to go to the company. She glanced at the time and said, "I'll head to the company first."
The driver and assistant were already waiting downstairs.
As Dovie left, Niamh clenched her fists and stared at her departing figure, a glint of malice in her eyes. She glanced at the bowl of duck soup. 'There was no rush. Eventually, I would be the mistress of the Parks Family.' She thought.
Dovie was still known as a formidable businesswoman in the industry.
After two consecutive meetings, Dovie returned to the company to rest for a while.
The phone on her desk rang. Dovie answered and asked, "Any leads?"
The caller was a private detective Dovie had hired. She was determined not to give up on finding her biological daughter. However, this had to be done secretly to avoid unnecessary turmoil within the company.
Most importantly, Dovie still cared about family ties and didn't want to embarrass Natalie and Niamh too much.
Once she found her daughter, she could make it public.
Previously, Dovie had planned to leave the company to Niamh, but now she had changed her mind. She needed to find her daughter as soon as possible.
The private detective said, "No news yet. Based on the missing persons and new arrivals at orphanages from that year, there were over thirty orphans that month, twenty-five of whom were girls. We need to investigate each one. Dovie, we need more time."
"Alright, I'll give you more time." Dovie said. "Find my daughter as soon as possible and bring her back safely."
Outside the office, the assistant was about to enter but overheard the conversation. Were they finding a daughter?
The assistant quietly left and quickly called Natalie to inform her.
Natalie had long since bribed Dovie's assistant to monitor her every move. Natalie had gone to great lengths to secure the company's power for Niamh.
When Natalie learned that Dovie was secretly searching for her biological daughter, she couldn't sit still. 'Ophelia was looking for her biological parents, and Dovie was searching, too. Eventually, they would match.'
'Once Dovie found her daughter, it would be over. Niamh would no longer be eligible to take over Parks Corporation.' She thought.
Natalie panicked. She couldn't openly stop Dovie, so she had to start with Ophelia.
Natalie approached Ophelia sooner than Ophelia had expected. Ophelia, Rhodes, and Lance had just finished eating when Natalie arrived. It was clear she had been to Rose Garden and knew they were at the restaurant.
Seeing that Ophelia had guests, Rhodes and Lance left first.
As they walked out of the restaurant, Rhodes asked, "Lance, how long have you been staying in New York? Why not stay a few more days, and I'll show you around New York?"
"Sure, New York is a great place." Lance said, clearly fond of the city. "My father also loves the culture here."
Rhodes, always enthusiastic, asked, "Your father is interested in the culture here?"
"Very much so." Lance replied. "He influenced me. My dad visited New York before and had a great impression of it."
"Really? Why didn't he come this time? You should bring him along next time. New York always welcomes you." Rhodes said with a smile.
"My father would love to come." Lance shrugged regretfully. "But my mother is not in good health, so he said he would come when there's another opportunity."
"That's a pity."
"I see." Rhodes suggested. "How about I take you to the art gallery now?"
"Sounds good."
As Lance got into the car, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he quickly answered, "Father, I've arrived in New York."
