Chapter 123 Ophelia, You Deserve It
Niamh's birthday party meant next to nothing to Finnegan.
For him, Niamh was just a stranger.
His task for the day was to celebrate Ophelia's birthday.
Finnegan took Ophelia to Church, and the two knelt down to pray.
Ophelia peeked with one eye and saw Finnegan was earnest in his devotions, not like someone who was visiting for the first time.
He truly had faith in Jesus.
Seeing his seriousness, Ophelia also prayed with reverence.
It was her first time at a church service. She was usually too busy making ends meet, at most, asking for God's blessing in passing, as she hardly had the time to pray in church.
After they finished praying and covered the entire church, they stayed for a meal and then strolled up the church's back hill to take in the view. By the time they finished, it was nearly dark.
Ophelia began to feel uncertain, her birthday was today, and Finnegan spent it just wandering around the church and climbing the hill?
That seemed less substantial than going out to enjoy some good food and drinks.
Just as she was thinking this, his clear voice reached her ears, "After we descend the hill, I'll take you to the food street."
Ophelia looked at him in surprise. "Finnegan, are you a mind reader now? How do you always know what I'm thinking?"
"Your thoughts aren’t too hard to guess," Finnegan replied with indulgence in his eyes. "Come on, let's head down, the steak at the food street is calling your name."
"Finnegan, I seriously love you," Ophelia exclaimed with joy, impulsively hugging his arm. It slipped out so naturally.
It was the first time she had ever used the word 'love'.
And it was all because of the lure of delicious food.
However, Finnegan took the statement to heart, and it lifted his spirits immensely.
Following their wild night together, Finnegan could clearly feel Ophelia's heart growing fond of him. Indeed, victory in love often arrived swiftest between the sheets. When a woman gave her body to someone, her heart would gradually follow suit.
On their way back, Finnegan asked her, "What were you praying for in front of the statue of Jesus earlier today?"
Without thinking, Ophelia replied, "For wealth, of course. It's not every day I go to church. Wouldn't I ask Jesus for a blessing to strike it rich?"
Finnegan chuckled. "Cling to me tighter is more effective."
Realization dawned on Ophelia. "You are right."
Curious, she asked, "And what did you ask for?"
Finnegan replied, "If I tell you, it might not come true."
Ophelia fell silent.
"So, since you asked me and I told you, does that mean my wish won't come true? I won't get rich now," she jested.
Finnegan patted his thigh. "Hold on tight, and prosperity will follow."
Ophelia laughed, her mood lifted as she leaned on his shoulder. "Dating a powerful CEO sure comes with perks," she mused contentedly.
She closed her eyes, engulfed in a feeling of happiness.
After descending the hill, they headed straight for the steakhouse. Finnegan had reserved a private room ahead of time.
Ophelia had ordered both spicy and non-spicy dishes. Finnegan wasn't a fan of spicy food, and he always considered her preferences. She, in turn, remembered his likes as well.
Finnegan took pleasure in watching Ophelia eat; her enjoyment seemed to make the world a brighter place, free of worries.
Once the food was served, Ophelia eagerly announced, "I'll start eating."
Just as she was about to begin, a server entered, pushing a cart. Ophelia glanced at Finnegan. "Did we order anything else?"
Finnegan spoke up, "This dish is my special order."
Ophelia's curiosity piqued. "What did you order that needs to be covered?"
The server placed the dish on the table, and Finnegan personally lifted the cover, revealing the four-leaf clover necklace nestled inside.
Upon seeing the necklace in the dish, Ophelia instantly knew this was the surprise Finnegan had prepared for her.
Moved to the core, he stood and picked up the necklace to put it on her. "Ophe, happy birthday. I hope to spend each coming year celebrating with you."
Ophelia's eyes turned warm with emotion. "Finnegan, why are you so good to me?"
In just a few days, she felt like the happiest person in the world.
What had she done to deserve such pampering from Finnegan?
She was just an ordinary person; how fortunate she was to encounter such a wonderful man.
"As Finnegan's woman, it's naturally my place to spoil you," he said, "Ophelia, you're worth it."
