Chapter 132 The Nightmare Began

"You think everyone's like you, leaving their brain at home."

Finnegan methodically unfastened his cufflinks and rolled up his shirt sleeves to reveal his muscular arms, exuding a sense of power.

Even Caspian, as a man, couldn't help feeling envious.

Dressed in a dark shirt, Finnegan's entire being was accentuated, emanating an austere charm. Through the thin fabric of his shirt, one could sense the strength and allure radiating from his muscular build and mature masculinity.

Caspian plopped down on the sofa and said, "Miss Sinclair is lucky to have snagged you. You're set for a happy future, Finnegan. When do you plan to go public?"

"No rush," Finnegan responded. "We'll just let things happen naturally."

With that, Finnegan sent Ophelia a message that he had social commitments that evening and wouldn't be able to come home for dinner.

Caspian leaned in, trying to sneak a peek at the message, and was surprised. "Finnegan, you have to check in with Miss Sinclair?"

Caspian could never manage that himself; despite having several girlfriends, his longest relationship hadn't lasted more than six months. In their social circles, Caspian was known for his flirty nature.

Finnegan tucked his phone away and said "It's called keeping my girlfriend informed, and being responsive."

Caspian was speechless.

...

At Parks Corporation, Ophelia received the message and quickly replied.

It worked out well because she also wanted to visit Magnus that evening to inquire about his biological parents' efforts to acknowledge their relationship with him and, while she was at it, to check on Seraphina's situation. Ophelia was tough on the outside but soft-hearted within. She couldn't just ignore the issues.

Ophelia left work on the dot; she was afraid if she lingered, Niamh would end up keeping her for overtime. Niamh's targeting of her was all too apparent.

Sure enough, just after Ophelia left, a visibly upset Niamh arrived at the planning department. She didn't find Ophelia and learned from other employees that she had already left for the day. Niamh was furious. She had been hoping for a chance to spend time with Finnegan, expecting him to pick up old lady Abbott, but instead, Finnegan's secretary showed up.

After old lady Abbott was taken care of, Niamh, frustrated and with no outlet for her irritation, decided to look for Ophelia.

Niamh told the staff, "Call Ophelia back for overtime."

They dialed Ophelia's number only to discover her phone was switched off.

"Miss Niamh, Ophelia's phone is off," the employee reported. "It's already past working hours."

With a steely expression, Niamh declared, "She dares to turn off her phone after work? Does she even want to keep her job? Notify her to stop by HR tomorrow to pick up her paycheck and leave."

After dropping this bombshell, Niamh stormed out.

Ophelia was unaware of the trouble brewing as she tried to call Magnus, only to find his phone switched off.

When Magnus was busy with important tasks, he would normally turn off his phone.

Ophelia, used to his habits, bought some groceries and headed straight to Magnus's place.

They had an understanding that if one wanted to visit the other for a meal, they would just show up with the ingredients.

Arriving at Magnus's home with groceries in tow, Ophelia was puzzled to find the security code had been changed. As she wondered why the password was different, the door suddenly swung open from the inside.

To her surprise, it was Seraphina who greeted her. "You're here too?" Ophelia exclaimed.

Expecting Magnus, Seraphina was just as taken aback to see Ophelia. Her tone dripping with sarcasm, she remarked, "Magnus isn't back. I thought you were so wrapped up with Finnegan, enjoying the high life, you'd forgotten about us."

Seraphina's attitude irked Ophelia. After all, it was Seraphina who, upon finding wealth, had eagerly tossed Ophelia and Magnus aside.

Not in the mood for a spat, Ophelia brushed past Seraphina, grocery bags in hand, only to freeze in place at the sight of two unfamiliar figures inside.

A man and a woman, both plain-looking; the woman was slightly overweight with darker skin tone. It was evident from their rough hands and faces that they had toiled in hardship.

The man had kicked off his shoes and was lounging on the sofa, watching TV, while the woman sat beside him.

The house was in disarray, a stark contrast to Magnus's usual tidiness, and a strange odor lingered in the air.

Before Ophelia could say anything, the man suddenly sat up, coughing violently, as if trying to clear mucus lodged in his throat. After a struggle, he managed to hack it up and spat it onto the floor, while the woman fetched him water, admonishing, "The doctor told you to drink more water, but you never listen."

Stunned by the scene, Ophelia turned to look at Seraphina for an explanation.

Seraphina said, "They are Magnus's biological parents."
