Chapter 58 Heartbroken
Seraphina had not visited Ophelia for the past couple of days because she was busy arranging for someone to buy abortion pills. She couldn't let Ophelia's child come into the world; it would be a threat to her lavish lifestyle sooner or later.
Seraphina had replaced the pregnancy care medicine with abortion drugs. The bottle was labeled as a calcium supplement for pregnancy, but the tablets inside were meant to induce an abortion.
Before taking action, Seraphina struggled internally but justified it to herself by thinking that she was doing Ophelia a favor. It would be difficult for Ophelia to raise a child alone. Ophelia was young; her life shouldn't be ruined by a baby.
"Ophelia, make sure you take these calcium tablets regularly. Once you finish them, I'll buy more for you," Seraphina said with a hypocritical smile, trying to suppress her guilt. "I better get going now. Don't bother cooking for yourself, it’s such a hassle. Just order some takeout."
Just then, Seraphina's phone rang—it was the person she had an appointment with, rushing her.
Ophelia didn't ask her to stay.
After Seraphina left, she put away the supplements, intending to cook, but recalling Seraphina's suggestion, she decided to order takeout instead. Today, she would be lazy.
Half an hour later, the delivery arrived. After eating the takeout, Ophelia went straight to bed.
Ophelia had a habit of sleeping whenever she faced problems, believing that even if hell froze over, she would sleep first and deal with everything afterward.
Ophelia slept soundly, but on the other side of town, Finnegan was downing drinks one after another at a club with Caspian.
Finnegan was infuriated.
He had just admitted to himself that he had feelings for Ophelia, and then she turned around and got pregnant. Wasn’t this a betrayal?
Caspian had no idea what had happened and didn't dare ask Finnegan directly. Instead, he made inquiries through Linda discreetly.
The truth shocked him—Ophelia was pregnant.
Was Finnegan heartbroken?
No, that wasn't quite right. More accurately, it was over before it began.
Realizing that Finnegan was drowning himself in alcohol, Caspian advised, "Finnegan, take it easy on the drink. There are plenty of fish in the sea."
With bloodshot eyes while reeking of alcohol, Finnegan gave Caspian a frosty look. "Ophelia is just a subordinate. Who's in love with her?"
"But I didn’t mention Miss Sinclair," Caspian responded. "Finnegan, seems like you're the one who has her on your mind."
Finnegan remained silent.
"Finnegan, did Miss Sinclair really get pregnant? Who's the father?" Caspian asked curiously. "From my experience with women, Miss Sinclair doesn't seem like the type to have loose morals. Could there be some misunderstanding here?"
Holding his glass tightly, Finnegan thought of the chat logs between Ophelia and Magnus.
"She admitted it herself." Finnegan downed another strong drink. "That woman... She’s full of lies; she even slammed the table at me. I'm her superior. I hadn't even fired her, and she just packed up her things and left."
Caspian probed further, "Finnegan, you say you’re not in love with Miss Sinclair, so what are you angry about? Her pregnancy has nothing to do with you, right? Which company rule or law says a woman can't get pregnant?"
Finnegan paused, bewildered by what exactly he was angry about.
He had no relationship with Ophelia beyond being her boss, and whether she was pregnant or dating someone, it was not his business to interfere.
Observing Finnegan's reaction, Caspian couldn't help but feel amused. "Finnegan, are you jealous? Did Miss Sinclair hurt your feelings?"
"Caspian," Finnegan growled his friend's name through clenched teeth.
"I’m just analyzing the situation," Caspian defended himself, moving back a little, fearing he might get hit. "Anyway, I believe Miss Sinclair is single. There might be more to her pregnancy—a deception by a man, or maybe she's been wronged and abandoned. Men sometimes use a woman and then deny responsibility. If you think about it, it's pretty sad for Miss Sinclair. Whoever abandoned her is a scoundrel."
