Chapter 190 Plot Twist
Damon had initially promoted Magnus because of his connection with Finnegan. Now, being rejected without even passing the initial test, it didn't seem like they had any connection at all.
Damon was confused. "What's going on? Could it be that Magnus doesn't have any relationship with CEO Abbott?"
Colleague Larry said, "Damon, I just inquired at Abbott's Corporation. CEO Abbott is not married at all. How could Magnus be his wife's brother? Recently, Magnus has been delivering takeout. I even bumped into him selling blood at a blood donation center on the roadside. He's so short of money that he wouldn't be familiar with CEO Abbott. Even if they were familiar, he wouldn't be this poor."
Not many people knew about Finnegan's marriage, let alone the company employees.
Upon hearing this, Damon furrowed his brows and said, "This Magnus dares to deceive me. Larry, go and bring Magnus to me."
...
Finnegan had just returned to Abbott's Corporation from outside and asked, "Have the lawyer teams we were looking for been found?"
Atticus replied, "I have preliminarily screened a few. CEO Abbott, take a look."
Atticus handed the information of several law firms to Finnegan.
The legal department of Abbott's Corporation was not professional, so Finnegan had thought of hiring externally.
Finnegan casually skimmed through the information of several firms and remembered something. He recalled that Magnus was a lawyer, and Ophe had mentioned before that Magnus specialized in corporate debt disputes, labor arbitration, and so on.
For a moment, Finnegan couldn't remember the name of the law firm where Magnus worked, so he called Ophe.
Ophe was outside, looking for a construction company. She was planning to open a Japanese restaurant, and the renovation of the store had to be done well.
Upon receiving Finnegan's call, Ophe asked, "Do you need something with Magnus?"
Finnegan said, "The company's legal department needs fresh blood. If Magnus is capable, I'll help out."
Ophe laughed on the phone. "I understand. I'll thank you properly tonight."
Finnegan was willing to use the law firm where Magnus worked because of her. Ophe understood this.
Finnegan smirked. "Then I'll come back early tonight."
Atticus was speechless and he pondered, 'The CEO Abbott's who is getting married is indeed different.'
Atticus quietly canceled Finnegan's evening schedule. It was the commitment of being an assistant.
After chatting with Ophe for a few more sentences, Finnegan hung up the phone and told Atticus, "Get in touch with the FP office and talk to them. We'll cooperate with their law firm, but Magnus must be responsible for liaising."
Atticus said, "Yes, CEO Abbott's, I will contact them right away."
......
Back at the law firm, Damon had someone summon Magnus directly and question, "Do you really have a connection with CEO Abbott's Corporation? How come you were rejected without even passing the initial interview?"
Magnus said, "I'm sorry, Damon, but our law firm's qualifications were not sufficient..."
"I know our qualifications are not enough, but aren't you acquainted with CEO Abbott's? Can't you handle even this matter?" Damon's face turned serious. "Magnus, tell me the truth. Do you have a relationship with CEO Abbott's?"
"No," Magnus denied, "I have only met CEO Abbott's once."
It was the truth. He had only met Finnegan once.
He didn't dare to ask Ophe and Finnegan for help anymore.
Upon hearing this, Damon slammed the table in anger and exclaimed, "Magnus, you dare to deceive me? I had someone investigate thoroughly, and CEO Abbott's is not even married. Yet, you pretended to be his brother. I've really been deceived. You orphan, where did you get a sister from?"
Magnus said, "Damon, let me explain..."
"There's no need for explanation," Damon angrily waved his hand. "Give back the five thousand dollars I gave you earlier, leave now, and don't ever think about working in the legal field again. I'm officially firing you."
Thinking about how he had buttered up Magnus before, buying him breakfast, paying him back, and giving him a raise and promotion, Damon's heart ached.
Just as he finished speaking, a colleague knocked on the door and said, "Damon, Atticus from Abbott's Corporation is here."
Damon raised his head and saw two people standing at the door. When he heard it was someone from Abbott's Corporation, his attitude immediately took a turn. He laughed exaggeratedly as he approached. "Atticus, you came here in person. Is there something you need?"
Atticus had heard Damon scolding Magnus earlier and glanced at Magnus in the office. As an experienced professional in the workplace, Atticus immediately knew what was going on.
Atticus ignored Damon and went straight to Magnus, saying, "Are you Magnus? I'm Atticus, the assistant to the CEO of Abbott's Corporation. The CEO of Abbott's asked me to talk to you about handling the legal affairs of Abbott's Corporation."
