Chapter 21 Do You Love Ophelia?
Finnegan felt inexplicably irritated. After slamming the classic book onto the desk, he stood up and left.
That smack made Ophelia a little frightened.
She couldn't help wondering, 'I pissed my boss off again? Will I get fired?'
Suddenly, she heard Lina's voice coming from the hallway. "Mr. Abbott, Ms. Kingsley feels bad in her stomach. She's been crying in pain. Please go look at her."
Following that, Finnegan's hurried footsteps sounded.
Ophelia secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, 'Finnegan's girlfriend got sick? Nice timing. Otherwise, this would really be a tough night for me.'
Not long after, she heard the hurried footsteps again, as if someone was going downstairs.
Ophelia walked to the window and glanced out, just in time to see Finnegan helping Seraphina into the car, apparently heading to the hospital.
Since Finnegan had his back to Ophelia, and his body blocked Seraphina, Ophelia didn't see Seraphina's face.
Ophelia thought, 'She's wrapped in Finnegan's coat. Looks like he really cares about his girlfriend.'
The car drove away, and Ophelia returned to her seat to continue working on the proposal, hoping to finish early and get home to sleep.
Midway through the work, Lina came in to serve tea. Ophelia asked, "Lina, did Mr. Abbott take Ms. Kingsley to the hospital?"
"Yeah, Ms. Kingsley kept saying she felt uncomfortable. It might be acute gastroenteritis," Lina said. "Mr. Abbott is very worried about Ms. Kingsley."
Ophelia smiled, "Yeah, I can tell. Lina, you don't need to serve tea for me. Go back and rest early. I'll be done in a while."
"All right. If you need anything, just let me know, Ophelia. I'll be on the first floor." Lina was very kind.
"Thank you."
After Lina left, Ophelia's phone pinged with a message from Magnus: [Ophelia, you done? When can you leave? I'm waiting for you outside Orchid Garden, right at the main gate.]
Magnus was worried as Ophelia was in her male boss's house now. 'What if something happened?' he thought.
Ophelia didn't expect Magnus to still be waiting outside. She looked at the time and noticed that it was already eleven o'clock. She still needed another two hours to finish, and it wouldn't be easy to get a taxi by then.
Ophelia texted back: [Working on a proposal. Two hours.]
Magnus replied: [Okay. I'll wait for you.]
In the hospital.
After Seraphina was brought in, the doctor, recognizing she was with Finnegan, gave her immediate and excellent care. It turned out that Seraphina had just upset her stomach.
Seraphina sat weakly on the hospital bed, looking pitiful, and said in a frail voice, "Mr. Abbott, I'm an orphan. Every time I get sick, I have to get through it on my own. I even fear entering a hospital because I can't afford the cost, and no one cares about me. This is the first time someone has been so worried about me. I'm really happy and touched."
As she spoke, she even shed a couple of tears, looking so pitiful.
However, in Finnegan's world, there was no such word as "pity". He said indifferently, "The doctor said there's nothing wrong. Just rest well, and be more careful about what you eat in the future."
"Mr. Abbott, you're so nice to me." Seraphina boldly flung herself into Finnegan's arms, but he reflexively pushed her away.
This time, there was no scent of lilies on Seraphina. Finnegan didn't know why he was so repulsed, whereas the last time Ophelia threw herself at him, he caught her subconsciously.
Finnegan's push left Seraphina embarrassed and flustered. "Mr. Abbott."
Finnegan frowned and said coldly, "Get some good rest."
After that, he turned to leave, feeling an inexplicable aversion as he looked at Seraphina's face.
"Mr. Abbott," Seraphina called out to him. "You don't like me. Then why did you take me to Orchid Garden? You said to let me be your woman, but why did you push me away just now?"
Finnegan was also conflicted. Indeed, it was he who had personally approached Seraphina initially, but everything was completely different from what he had imagined. Seraphina's approach repulsed him, and he couldn't find a trace of that night's feeling from her.
He stood still and replied, "I said I would compensate you. You can continue to live in Orchid Garden, but don't expect anything more. You can also choose to leave, and I'll give you a million as compensation."
He had made it very clear. Seraphina could only get money from him. As for becoming his woman or marrying him, no way.
Finnegan's words shattered Seraphina's dreams. She asked resentfully, "Do you love Ophelia? Your secretary? It's late at night, yet you still called her to Orchid Garden. Do you love her?"
