Chapter 425 Life Always Has Regrets
Seeing her mother one last time eased a lot of Ophelia's regrets.
At least she called Dovie 'Mom', and they acknowledged each other's existence. But this brief happiness vanished too quickly for her to accept.
Ophelia tried to sit up. The little one in her belly had been quiet these past few days, occasionally kicking.
Previously, the little one was quite restless in the morning, kicking so hard that Ophelia would be woken up.
"My mom didn't get to see the baby born. She didn't get to hear the baby call her 'Grandma,'" Ophelia sniffled, unable to hold back her tears.
Ophelia was filled with regret.
Finnegan held her hand and kissed the back of it, "Honey."
Ophelia loved hearing these two words, which made her happy and helped to dilute her sadness.
He rushed back to be by her side when she was at her lowest.
Finnegan personally went downstairs to take the breakfast, adding some delicious side dishes to whet Ophelia's appetite.
Ophelia had no appetite, but for the sake of the baby, she had to eat. She was also waiting for the autopsy results. If there were any foul play in her mother's death, she wouldn't let the culprit go.
After drinking a glass of cow juice, Ophelia couldn't eat anymore. "I want to get up and walk around."
Finnegan immediately helped her up. "Let's go to the backyard. There are new flowers, and many bloomed yesterday." Ophelia nodded and walked to the backyard with Finnegan.
"Have you asked about the autopsy results?" Ophelia asked.
"We still need to wait; the results might come out tomorrow," Finnegan said. "Mom's illness came on suddenly and too quickly. I also agree with the autopsy. I watched the surveillance footage. After you left, Natalie went in less than two minutes later. When Natalie came out in a panic to call the doctor, nine and a half minutes had passed."
"Only Natalie knows what happened in those nine and a half minutes," Ophelia stopped in front of the flower bed and looked at Finnegan.
"Natalie hid my identity before and pushed her daughter to become Parks Corporation's heiress. If my mom were alive and I came back, it would be very disadvantageous for Natalie and her daughter. I have reason to suspect that my mom's death is related to Natalie and Niamh. Natalie has been plotting for Parks Corporation for so long. She wouldn't give up." Human nature is too hard to predict.
"Natalie has indeed done a lot for Parks Corporation," Finnegan said, helping Ophelia sit down on a chair. "The person named Langston who tried to harm you in France was backed by Natalie." Finnegan hadn't told Ophelia before, considering Dovie's relationship.
Now that Dovie was gone and Ophelia suspected Natalie, there was no need to hide it.
"It was her," Ophelia felt a chill down her spine. "Even if I'm not her daughter, I'm still her niece by blood. I should call her 'Aunt'. How could she do this?"
Finnegan nodded, hearing some noise in the distance.
It was the 'crazy' Oscar playing with mud.
"People's hearts are hard to fathom," Finnegan said, looking at Oscar with a meaningful tone. "Sometimes, it's hard to tell if someone is human or a ghost."
Ophelia followed Finnegan's gaze to Oscar playing in the mud.
"If I'm not mistaken, he's pretending to be crazy, right?"
Finnegan was a bit surprised. "Ophelia, how did you figure it out?"
"I've been staying at the old mansion for a few days. My room's balcony faces the backyard, and I can see Oscar's place. I noticed that Oscar plays in the flower bed but becomes very quiet once inside the house," Ophelia said logically. "A madman can't stay still. And the night I returned from France, I saw Oscar go out and climb back over the wall in the middle of the night. You made him eat earthworms to test him, right?"
Finnegan pursed his lips. "Yes, if he wants to act crazy, let him. Under our surveillance, he can't do anything bad."
A cold light flashed in Ophelia's eyes. "If Natalie can harm me, she can harm my mom too."
