Chapter 749 Stealing the Spotlight
Tate shook her head, unconvinced. "If she's faking, I won't let her get away with it. Using Ophelia's name, ruining her reputation... "
Even though Tate hadn't known Ophelia long, she was one of her few friends, and Tate wouldn't let anyone use Ophelia's face to fool others.
Caspian asked, "Say, just for kicks, Finnegan's in on it. Accepts this fake Ophelia as the real deal. What then?"
"No way," Tate said firmly. "Finnegan would never accept anyone but Ophelia, even if they were spitting images.."
Caspian was speechless; he felt like Tate understood Finnegan better than he did.
Tate had plans for the evening and said, "I have to go."
Caspian felt a bit let down. He thought they'd have more time together after Tate got out of prison, but she seemed swamped with family business and Ophelia's issues.
Caspian felt a bit hurt but kept quiet. A grown man getting emotional in front of a woman would be embarrassing.
"I'll walk you out."
"No need," Tate said. "I drove."
Caspian sighed and walked her to the parking lot. Having such a capable girlfriend made him feel useless.
Tate didn't need protection; she wasn't a delicate girl. She could drive a car, fly a plane, operate a tank, and take down ten grown men with her bare hands. Her mind was sharp, and her instincts were killer.
In terms of family, Tate was the heir to the Stewart Group, and her brother Raymond was the captain of the counter-terrorism unit.
In terms of looks and manners, she was top-notch.
Tate started the car, ready to leave, and glanced at Caspian by the roadside, scratching his head in frustration. She seemed to get it.
Tate rolled down the window and leaned out. "Once I get through this busy period, let's go out somewhere."
Caspian's eyes lit up, and he nodded eagerly. "Sure."
Tate said, "This is all new territory for me. My first real relationship. I'm not used to relying on anyone. Aria's the only one I've ever truly trusted to have my back.Caspian, Moonlight Gate never taught me how to date, so I..."
Caspian understood. He looked at Tate's earnest and innocent expression, his heart stirring. Standing by the car, he bent down slightly and kissed Tate on the lips through the car door.
It was Caspian's first time being so bold, doing something he had always wanted to do.
The kiss was brief, just enough to make a point.
Tate's cheeks flushed, and she suddenly remembered the time she had touched Caspian's private parts, her heart pounding.
Caspian smiled and said, "Tate, I'm sorry. I was being petty. In a relationship, I should take the initiative. You go ahead and take care of your things. We have plenty of time. See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow." Tate blushed and couldn't look Caspian in the eye as she spoke.
This time, Tate started the car and drove away. She went straight to the address Eugene had given her, only to find Karen there as well.
Karen had come with Eugene today. Since Eugene planned to have Tate take over the company, Karen had also become more serious, wanting to join the company and learn the business from Eugene.
Eugene treated them equally, and Karen's ambition was naturally a good thing.
"Tate," Karen greeted with a smile. "Dad brought me here. The other uncles are all here too. They've been friends with Dad for many years and have worked together on many projects."
Karen deliberately showed off in front of Tate, flaunting her knowledge and familiarity with the uncles.
"Okay." Tate didn't want to engage with Karen and pushed the door open to go inside.
In the private room, including Eugene, there were six people present, all around Eugene's age. They were business partners and old friends, and Tate had met them at the homecoming party.
Seeing Tate arrive, Eugene stood up and smiled. "Tate, come sit here."
Then he said to the others, "No need for introductions today."
Tate walked over and sat next to Eugene. Karen felt jealous but didn't show it, returning to her seat.
Karen had an idea and then deliberately adopted a humble learning posture, saying to a middle-aged man next to her, "I was really interested in the new energy project you were discussing with my dad earlier. Could you tell me more about it?"
The man laughed and said, "Eugene, your younger daughter is quite the business talent. It's rare for a girl to be interested in new energy. She has a bright future."
