Chapter 225 Ophe's Trouble Arrives
Thinking about how his parents were being bullied in their hometown, Magnus felt a pang of heartache.
"Jett, I understand the importance of gaining respect for Tobias, but there must be another way," Magnus stepped back and said, "I can come home and stay with you for a few days."
"What's the use of you staying for a few days? The villagers will still bully our family once you leave," Jett said with emotion, "You know what gives us confidence in our hometown? It's a house. Many people in the village have bought houses in the county or built new ones in our hometown. Our family still lives in a brick house from over twenty years ago."
Even though the brick house from decades ago could be considered a mansion, the money used to build it was acquired by Tobias through selling some of his children.
Tobias was also well-known as a millionaire in the surrounding area.
Back then, Tobias claimed that his children had died from illness, but no one knew that he had actually sold them.
However, if five or six died from illness, it would definitely attract rumors and suspicion.
There were no secrets in the world.
Tobias's secret naturally spread.
However, legal awareness was weak in that place. The villagers only complained about Tobias behind his back, saying that he was unscrupulous and would face retribution in the future, but no one reported him to the authorities.
As time went on, Tobias's karma finally arrived.
After Riley gave birth to Magnus, her health declined, and she couldn't have any more children. The Cobb's Family lost its economic source. Tobias was lazy and relied on Riley to do the farm work.
Jett became paralyzed, which further worsened the situation for the family.
Actually, Tobias was also afraid that Magnus would return to their hometown and hear those idle gossip. He could choose not to return, but money needed to be obtained.
Magnus fell silent, and Jett angrily said, "You're supposed to be an educated person, yet you lack compassion. You make so much money. Why don't you buy a house in our hometown and make Tobias proud? Give him respect."
"Jett, we can negotiate everything else, but not the house," Magnus lit a cigarette and took a firm stance, "I won't sell the house. If you want to buy a house in our hometown, I can earn money. Give me some time, and I'll save up enough for a down payment."
"Magnus, how can you be so selfish and heartless? This house is worth over ten million. If you sell it, you can buy a whole building. Why make things so difficult?" Jett was getting frustrated. "We can buy a villa with one million and still have over nine million left. Our whole family can live a comfortable life without working."
"This house is not mine," Magnus emphasized again, but he also realized that no one would believe his words, so he said, "I'm going to the company. I have some business to attend to."
Magnus had originally wanted to take a break at home, but Jett's words dampened his mood, so he had to continue going out to avoid them.
Just as Magnus left, Tobias and Riley came back.
Jett said, "Tobias, Magnus just came back, and I talked to him for a long time, but he still refuses to sell the house."
"He's really stubborn." Tobias felt angry.
Riley said, "Be patient. Try to persuade him again."
She was afraid that the feud between them would deepen.
"Riley, I've already tried." Jett coldly snorted. "Now he's making excuses to go out again. He's just avoiding us. He looks at us as a burden. Tobias, Magnus is your son, and he must support you. He has to give this money. So, what if he buys a house? He can earn more in the future."
Jett spoke with a sense of entitlement.
Tobias became even more angered when Jett stirred up trouble.
"If he won't sell it, then we'll sell it for him," Tobias said. "It's up to me."
Tobias thought selling a house was simple. He just had to bring the property deed, and it could be sold. He immediately found the property deed in the room and took it to the real estate agency to put it up for sale.
Magnus had no intention of going home and wasn't aware of these matters. He was taking on more and more cases and was too busy to return home.
Magnus was staying in the difficulty, while Ophe, who had been living comfortably for a while, also encountered her troubles.
