Chapter 40 Sparks Ignite
Finnegan was slightly taken aback and leaned in closer to inspect.
Unknowingly, Finnegan's face had almost reached Ophelia's, when suddenly, Ophelia opened her eyes.
Finnegan's handsome face was right in front of her, bathed in moonlight, giving off a cold aura.
They were too close, close enough to feel each other's breath.
Ophelia blinked as her gaze fell on his Adam's apple; she watched it bob, which was incredibly attractive. Their eyes met, and an ambiguous atmosphere spread in the air.
His gaze moved from her eyes to her lips, then to her collarbone...
Her black hair was scattered behind her, and their position was quite suggestive.
He found this angle increasingly familiar. The faint mint scent from her body stirred his physiological memory.
His lips began to slowly approach hers; he was uncontrollably drawn to her.
Ophelia clenched her hands nervously, and her heart rate accelerated. "Finneg... Mr. Abbott."
Her voice pulled him back from his trance, his lips stopping a millimeter away from hers.
He didn't know why he had an uncontrollable desire for her. The sobered Finnegan felt a bit embarrassed.
"Uh... sorry..."
Finnegan was at a loss for words, not daring to meet Ophelia's eyes.
As he straightened up, the hand supporting his weight on the edge of the bed ached. His hand lost its strength, and he sank down, causing his lips to land on hers.
Ophelia was shocked, and her mind went blank.
Finnegan's stomach tightened. Her lips were soft and sweet, directly evoking the memory of that night.
The woman under him that night was also so soft and sweet, making him... lose control. He wanted more, and he did just that.
Finnegan deepened the kiss; he was somewhat out of control.
Ophelia felt a bit suffocated; she was running out of breath. Her mind was in chaos; her cheeks were burning, and her heart was racing.
A cold wind blew in, waking Ophelia a bit. She pushed Finnegan away and quickly sat up.
Finnegan also came to his senses, only then realizing what he had done to Ophelia.
"Ophelia, I'm sorry."
Finnegan was somewhat regretful, he just now...
Ophelia didn't dare to look directly at Finnegan; her mind was still a mess. "It's... it's okay."
"Ophelia, have you ever been to The Ritz-Carlton?"
Finnegan felt that Ophelia was too familiar to him, hence he asked.
Upon hearing the words "The Ritz-Carlton," Ophelia's heart thumped. Did he remember?
Ophelia looked up and met his deep eyes. The desire in his eyes had not yet dissipated, making her nervous. "No."
She denied it. How could she dare to admit it?
Finnegan felt somewhat disappointed.
"Just now... I'm sorry." Finnegan also looked a bit embarrassed. "My arm hurt a bit just now."
This explanation seemed a bit redundant.
His arm hurt, and he fell on Ophelia, so a kiss would be fine, but why did he deepen it? Why did he almost lose all control?
Even Finnegan thought this explanation was a bit poor.
But apart from the woman from The Ritz-Carlton last time, only Ophelia made him feel this way.
Whenever he looked at Seraphina, he felt no desire, only annoyance.
Sometimes he wondered if he was able to ignore Seraphina's flaws because he was drunk and under the influence of the medication that night. A sober Finnegan couldn't make a move on Seraphina; he even felt somewhat repulsed.
"It's... it's okay." It seemed that Ophelia could only say this sentence.
"I need to use the bathroom."
She made an excuse and hid in the bathroom.
The ward had a private bathroom.
Ophelia looked at herself in the mirror. Her face was frighteningly red and very hot. She splashed cold water on her face, trying her best to calm down.
If she had had some alcohol, she might have had the courage to throw herself at Finnegan, but when she was sober, she was timid; she didn't dare.
Ophelia touched her lips; they felt a bit numb.
She still remembered the feeling of the passionate kiss just now. She saw the desire in Finnegan's eyes clearly too. If she hadn't stopped him, he might have gone further...
The last time she was drunk, Ophelia could still convince herself that it was a drunken mistake. But now, she couldn't fool herself into being with Finnegan in such a confused state.
He was her boss, and he had a girlfriend. If she walked out of this door and Finnegan didn't take responsibility, would she go from being his secretary to his mistress? Would she become a homewrecker?
Ophelia looked at herself in the mirror and told herself, "Ophelia, wake up. Don't covet things that aren't yours, or the consequences will be dire."
Ophelia had come a long way through hardship, and she didn't have the capital to play with her life. How could she act recklessly?
