Chapter 625 Solving the Problem at Its Root
Aria sat on the ground, drenched, with water dripping from the tips of her hair onto her skin and clothes.
She was in a sorry state. She looked at Tate, someone she had known for nearly twenty years and knew well.
She knew Tate's choice.
Aria looked at her and said, "Tell me what to do, and I'll follow your lead."
Hearing this, Tate was at a loss for words.
Tate glanced into the pitch-black distance and finally spoke after a long time, "Let's turn ourselves in."
She said "us," not just Aria alone.
The two had shared life experiences for so many years, with Aria always being her shadow. They were like one person.
Tate couldn't bear to watch Aria go to her death alone.
If they had to do it, she would accompany Aria.
Aria knew Tate would want her to turn herself in, but she didn't expect Tate to do it too.
"All these years, I've been the one doing the killing. I'm the one who should turn myself in. What are you going for?" Aria stood up, facing Tate, and said, "You've always wanted to leave Moonlight Gate. Now's your chance, Tate. You're free, which means I'm free. Go see the outside world for me."
With that, Aria turned and walked away from the overpass, her desolate figure making Tate feel bitter.
"Aria," Tate called out to her.
Aria stopped but didn't turn around.
Tate said, "Come with me to see my brother Raymond."
Hearing this, Aria turned around and asked, "Your brother?"
"The counter-terrorism unit captain, Raymond, is my brother," Tate said. "The outside world is wonderful. I want to see it with you."
Hearing this news, Aria was both shocked and relieved.
With Tate's background, she was sure to have a different future.
Now, she was the stumbling block in Tate's future. Only by turning herself in could Tate have a smoother path.
"I'm used to the darkness. You go see it for me," Aria said, leaving.
Aria didn't want to drag Tate down because of her crimes.
She was willing to bear that burden for Tate.
Her existence was to protect Tate and to live for Tate.
And so was her sacrifice.
After Aria walked away, Tate, still drenched, returned to Raymond's place. She was injured and soaking wet, drawing some attention. She took deserted paths and avoided the elevator, opting for the stairs instead.
After Moonlight Gate's people left, they reported the situation to Lloyd.
Even now, Moonlight Gate's people thought Tate had taken poison.
Assassin Sarah reported confidently, "Master, as you predicted, Tate drank the potion. She is doomed, but unfortunately, Aria escaped."
"Bring Aria back to Moonlight Gate," Lloyd coldly ordered before hanging up.
In Moonlight Gate's headquarters lab, a scientist discovered a missing antidote while inventorying the lab's drugs.
Upon checking a special poison, he found an extra bottle of poison.
The bottles of the two drugs were similar in appearance and color, and the new drug had no name, only a label.
Clearly, an antidote was missing.
The scientist, kidnapped by Moonlight Gate to do researches, didn't dare report this.
He quickly made a new antidote to replace the missing one, ensuring no one would know.
Tate returned to Raymond's place, changed out of her wet clothes, and treated her wounds as best as she could. She didn't dare go to a hospital or clinic.
After handling everything, she finally sat down to rest.
Tate thought about Warmie's disappearance and Ophelia's anxious look. Just as she was about to call Ophelia, the door opened.
Raymond came in, and with his professional sensitivity, he immediately smelled the medicine.
"Tay, why does it smell like medicine? Are you hurt?" Raymond asked anxiously.
Tate said nonchalantly, "Just a minor injury. I ran into Moonlight Gate people by the river."
"Let me check your wound." Raymond said worriedly, then realized it's inappropriate. Then he ask, "Where are you hurt?"
Tate said, "My abdomen and back got slashed. I've already treated it."
There were always medicines at home since Raymond often got injured.
Raymond was worried but couldn't check, so he insisted, "Come on, I'll take you to the hospital for further treatment."
"Raymond, don't you want to know who the founder of Moonlight Gate is?" Tate changed the subject. "I remember everything now."
