Chapter 23 Ophelia Is Pregnant

Ophelia retched for a while but couldn't vomit anything out. Yet, the smell of the canned food made her feel very uncomfortable.

"Linda, I'm sorry," Ophelia apologized awkwardly. It was embarrassing to vomit in front of a colleague who had just given her a gift. It was like refusing her in the face.

Linda had been working for Finnegan for a long time, and offending her could lead to subtle retaliation. If she wanted, she could make life difficult for Ophelia with just a few small moves.

"Ophelia, you dislike this smell?" Linda didn't seem angry. "Or you feel unwell?"

Ophelia covered her nose, replying, "I don't know why, but recently, I sometimes have this retching and can't stand certain smells."

"Ophelia, could you be pregnant?" Lisa walked in and asked with a gossipy tone. "Your reaction is just like my sister-in-law's. When she just got pregnant, she had been retching and vomiting every day, unable to stand any smell."

Ophelia repeated the word in her heart, 'Pregnant?'

This word frightened her immensely, leaving her stunned.

There were no secrets in the office. Ophelia had previously bluffed about having a fiancé, and everyone believed it. Sometimes, Magnus would come to pick her up from work, which seemed to confirm the story.

It was precisely because Ophelia was "taken" that her colleagues from the secretarial department were so friendly to her. Otherwise, with Ophelia being so attractive, there would definitely be conflicts of interest and scheming if she were still single.

But since Ophelia had a "fiancé", she posed no threat to other women.

"When was your last period? Are you really pregnant?" Linda asked.

"I... My period." Ophelia's mind was in turmoil, her hands and feet turning cold with fear. She was terrified of being pregnant.

She couldn't possibly be with Finnegan. Besides, her life was very good now. If a child really came into the picture, everything would be thrown into chaos.

Seeing Ophelia look so lost, Lisa suggested, "I think there's a good chance you are. Ophelia, you should go to the hospital for a check-up. They're still open."

Ophelia forced a smile and replied, "It's impossible. No need to go to the hospital. Maybe I just caught a cold, feeling nauseous. Well, I need to get some warm water now."

After saying that, she fled in panic and hid in the break room. Then, she took out her phone to check her menstrual cycle app, which she used to track her periods.

Her last period was...

As Ophelia flipped through the records, her heart sank.

Her period was ten days late this month.

She thought, 'My period has always been very punctual, and this has never happened before. So, I'm really pregnant?

'Finnegan's shot hit the target on the first try... No, wait, it was actually three times that night.'

Ophelia's heart raced with panic, and a strange feeling welled up inside her. She subconsciously touched her belly, thinking, 'Unbelievable. A new life might be growing inside me right now?'

She glanced at the time. It was three in the afternoon, and there was still time to go to the hospital.

After finishing her work, Ophelia left the company. Even if it meant her being absent for a few hours, no one would say anything about it. Thus, she left quietly.

In the CEO's office, Finnegan was working when Caspian strolled into the company. Not seeing Ophelia, Caspian asked, "Boss, where's Ophelia? Haven't seen her for a long time."

"Why do you care so much about her?" Finnegan calmly flipped through his documents.

"Just asking," Caspian said nonchalantly. "Come on, boss, don't be so stingy. I'm not gonna steal her from you. I just find her fun and interesting. She dares to tease you and still stays around. She's the first one, you know."

"She's just a secretary at Abbott's Corporation," Finnegan emphasized, correcting him. "If you wanna see her, go ahead. As long as it's outside of work hours, it's none of my business."

Caspian's eyes lit up. "Boss, you don't love her, right? Then can I pursue her? I'm gonna invite her to dinner tonight, and you can't interfere."

"Whatever," Finnegan said coolly. "Just a reminder, she has a fiancé."

Caspian didn't care. "So what? Even if she had a husband, I wouldn't hesitate to make a move. It's just a moral issue, not illegal."

Finnegan felt speechless.

"Mr. Abbott, here's the quotation list you requested." Linda walked in, respectfully handing the document to Finnegan.

"All right." Finnegan glanced at it briefly.

Caspian leaned toward Linda, asking, "Linda, is Ophelia around? I wanna ask her out for dinner."

Linda replied, "She has gone out. She wasn't feeling well, so she might've gone to the hospital."

She suspected that Ophelia might really be pregnant.

But she wasn't sure, so she wouldn't spread rumors. Meanwhile, she was worried that Finnegan might be dissatisfied with Ophelia's sudden leave, so she mentioned the hospital to cover for Ophelia.

When Finnegan heard that Ophelia had gone to the hospital, he slightly narrowed his eyes.
