Chapter 744 The Eve of the Outbreak

Susan's words made Lily's face change instantly. Even if she was slow, she got what Susan meant.

Lily blushed, feeling embarrassed and flustered. 'How does she know I'm a fake?' she wondered.

She hadn't spent much time with Susan, mostly staying at the villa near Finnegan's place. In the past six months, she'd only met Susan three times.

"I, I..." Lily stammered nervously, "I mean no harm."

'Did Lynn betray me? No, if she did, she'd have told Finnegan, not Susan,' Lily thought.

"Relax," Susan said, grinning. "I know you're not a bad guy at heart. If you were, I would've ditched you ages ago."

Lily felt a bit more at ease but kept quiet.

Susan's smile faded as she put down her utensils, looking sad. "Ophelia loved eating Mexican food with me. She was amazing; she even opened a Mexican restaurant. I went there a few times, and the food was great. I even helped her with live streaming to attract customers. Those were happy days."

Talking about Ophelia, Susan started crying, wiping her tears with a handkerchief. "The Abbott family had many troubles, and Ophelia was always brave and resourceful. Having her in our family was a blessing. During that shipwreck, it should have been me who died. Ophelia made me get on the boat first, and she didn't make it in time, so Lloyd caught her. It was all my fault."

Susan regretted it every time she thought about it, feeling frustrated.

If Ophelia had gotten on the boat, everything would have been different.

Lily listened to Susan's story and felt sad too. "Ophelia was a wonderful person."

Susan held Lily's hand and asked, "So, Ophelia, right? You've met her. And she wants you back at the house? It's just... I don't know, it's like she's here, but not really here you know?"

Lily said, "I met her. She asked me to come back, but I know a lie can't last forever. So I asked Finnegan for a divorce so he could start fresh. That's also Ophelia's wish, for him to forget her."

Ophelia had given Lily two choices: either make Finnegan forget her or stay with him in her place.

But she couldn't stay with him forever; she had fallen in love with Finnegan.

Susan said, "That's impossible. Finnegan won't agree to a divorce. There's not enough time; you need to stay longer. Things can't be rushed."

Susan understood Lily's thoughts.

"But Warmie's getting older," Lily sighed, "She'll remember all this. It'll mess her up too. Ugh, what am I supposed to do?"

Susan sighed. That was indeed a problem. Unless one day, Finnegan truly fell in love with Lily and time faded everything, but that was unlikely. Finnegan wouldn't fall in love with Lily.

Susan said, "Take it one step at a time. Lily, stay. If anything happens, I'll support you."

Lily couldn't refuse Susan's pleading eyes. She nodded softly and said, "Okay, but my dad is not well. I need to see him tomorrow."

Susan said, "That's the right thing to do. You and Finnegan should spend some time apart and think things over."

"Yes, thank you." Lily felt much more at ease after dinner with Susan.

Lily also told Susan how she met Ophelia and where Ophelia was buried.

Susan wept bitterly. She wanted to go to Oceanview City with Lily, under the pretense of accompanying Lily, to pay her respects to Ophelia.

She owed Ophelia too much and had to go see her.

So the next day, Lily and Susan set off for Oceanview City. Before boarding the plane, Susan called Finnegan and said, "Finnegan, Ophelia and I are going to Oceanview City. We've been cooped up at home for too long. I'm going out for a bit. Don't worry, and spend more time with Warmie."

Finnegan was surprised. "You and Ophelia are going to Oceanview City?"

"Sure, why not?" Susan said. "Listen, we gotta board soon, so I'll make this quick. Don't sweat it, Ophelia's not going anywhere with me around.Dylan, who saved Ophelia, is not well. Ophelia should go back to see him."

Finnegan couldn't say much, only reminding them, "Take care and stay safe."

After boss's baby, she Escape
