Chapter 11 Is That Your Fiancé?

Ophelia was a bit curious, thinking, 'How pretty is Finnegan's girlfriend? He loves her so much that he gives her a gift on a special day and doesn't care about the price at all.'

After Atticus reported on his work, he left, and Finnegan went to the meeting room for a conference, leaving Ophelia to continue working in the office on her proposal.

She finally finished it before it was time to leave work. She exhaled, went over it, and was quite satisfied.

Just then, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she picked the phone up at once.

"Magnus!" Her voice was cheerful. "You're back from your business trip?"

On the other end of the line, a man's gentle voice rang out. "Yes. You'll be off work soon, right? I'm downstairs at your company. Let's have dinner together tonight."

Ophelia said, "I think I can get off work on time if nothing happens. You have no idea. So many things happened while you were away! I got promoted, and Seraphina found a boyfriend and moved out..."

She briefly told things happened recently to Magnus Blackwood, who was from the same orphanage as she and Seraphina and was now a lawyer working in a law firm.

"Really? That's indeed a lot," Magnus said. "Let's talk when we meet."

"OK. Give Seraphina a call and ask her to join us. She has always listened to you, and I think you can ask her more about her boyfriend. I'm worried she's been tricked," Ophelia said while organizing the files. "My treat tonight. She and I agreed that I'll treat you both to a meal when you are back. It's settled."

While talking, Ophelia glanced up and saw Finnegan walking in. "See you soon. My boss is here," she quickly said to Magnus and hung up the phone.

Then she stood aside, looking obedient and respectful.

With an indifferent expression, Finnegan walked past her toward his desk.

"Mr. Abbott, here's the proposal you wanted." Ophelia followed him and handed him the proposal she had just written with both hands.

Still expressionless, Finnegan tapped his fingers against the desk gently. "Put it here."

He looked at the computer, not even glancing at her, his demeanor cold and forbidding.

Ophelia thought, 'His meeting didn't go well?'

'When is he gonna check the proposal? I wanna get off work on time.'

Yet to her disappointment, he never picked up the proposal. Seeing that, she was a bit anxious. The clock on the wall showed that it was five o'clock, time for her to leave work.

She glanced at Finnegan. Seeing that he had no response, she knew she wouldn't be leaving work on time today.

Not daring to disturb him when he was working, she tiptoed to the side and texted Magnus on WhatsApp while facing Finnegan with her back.

Ophelia: [Change of plan. I might have to work late today. My boss isn't in a good mood...]

In fact, Finnegan noticed what she had been doing. He had already seen through her with his sharp eyes.

He was standing outside, looking at her when she was on the phone. Although he didn't hear what she said, he could tell from her expression that she was in a good mood.

It was the first time he had seen her smile so happily, relaxed, and at ease. When he was around, she had never smiled like that.

He remembered she said last time that she had a fiancé, and he figured that she was talking to him. Otherwise, why would she be smiling so happily?

Apparently, she couldn't wait to get off work for her date. Looked like she was in love.

Seeing that, Finnegan felt a faint sense of loss.

Right after Ophelia texted Magnus, Finnegan decided to take her to be with him tonight on a whim.

His icy voice rang above her. "Ophelia, pack up and tell the driver we're leaving in ten minutes. You're coming with me today."

Hearing that, she looked up in surprise, thinking, 'Again?'

'I don't think there's any work scheduled for tonight. I know Finnegan's schedule by heart.'

'Anyway, I guess I have to steady my nerves before anything. After all, I've always known how unpredictable he is.'

She quickly said, "OK, Mr. Abbott."

After saying that, she hurried downstairs to inform the driver and also to let Magnus know that she might have to take a rain check.

Magnus was already waiting downstairs. She saw his car the second she went out and walked over with a smile.

The car door opened, and the suited-up Magnus stepped out, handing a gift to her. "It's for you. See if you like it."

"Thanks." She took it over. He always brought gifts for her and Seraphina from his business trips, so she didn't overthink.

"I'm afraid I can't make it tonight. I've got to go to a business party with my boss. You may go back. Let's make plans another time," she said.

In the next second, a car horn sounded. The driver was urging her.

She turned back and saw Finnegan was already waiting in the car. Therefore, she gave the gift back to Magnus and said, "Hold onto it for me for now, OK? I'm going out tonight and can't take it with me. Drop it off at my place another time."

After saying that, she turned and walked toward Finnegan's car before Magnus could say anything.

She walked up to Finnegan's car, opened the door, and sat inside. "Mr. Abbott."

Meanwhile, she felt a wave of cold air and couldn't help but wonder if the driver had turned on the air conditioning. Why was it so cold?

Confused, she glanced at the car's control screen. The air conditioning wasn't on at all.

"Is that your fiancé?" Finnegan's icy voice suddenly rang out.

"What?" Ophelia was caught off guard. Then she said quickly, reacting, "Yeah."

In fact, she regretted it as soon as she blurted out.
