Chapter 692 Meeting, Not Recognizing
Finnegan had dropped a lot of weight, and when Caspian saw him, he felt a lump in his throat.
"Finnegan, why are you looking so skinny?"
Caspian felt a wave of sadness.
The skinnier Finnegan looked more defined, wrapped in melancholy and loneliness.
Finnegan smoked a few cigarettes, feeling calmer. "I'm okay."
"By the way, Finnegan, I saw ads all over the city on my way here. Is it true Ophelia's back?" Caspian was worried Finnegan might be delusional.
"She's back," Finnegan said, reading Caspian's mind. "The security guard confirmed it. He saw her return."
"Really? Then where is she? Why did she leave again after coming back?" Caspian was puzzled.
Finnegan was just as puzzled and couldn't answer.
The news of his search had reached Wilder.
Wilder knew Finnegan was back but didn't go see him. He was still mad at Finnegan because of Ophelia.
In his eyes, Finnegan's failure to protect Ophelia led to her accident. The Abbott family didn't even have a gravestone for her, and now Finnegan's back looking for her, which only made Wilder angrier.
Katherine said worriedly, "Could Finnegan be delusional, overwhelmed by longing?"
"Ophelia's been gone for over half a year. They didn't even find her body by the sea. Now he's back in Yorkhaven looking for her. Who knows what he's thinking?" Wilder said angrily. "Ophelia should never have stayed in Yorkhaven. If she had come back to Country F with me, nothing would have happened."
Seeing Wilder's anger, Katherine didn't say anything more.
A night passed, and the ads were still up, but Ophelia didn't show.
Finnegan waited all night, going from hopeful to puzzled.
'Ophelia came back to Yorkhaven. Why did she leave again? If she saw the ads, why didn't she come back? Did she not see them?' Finnegan thought, full of confusion and anxiety.
Caspian stayed with him all night but left early for work.
Finnegan also went out, driving to the wetland park where he and Ophelia used to go on dates.
In winter, the wetland park was almost empty. It was too cold, and it was snowing, so people stayed inside.
Finnegan found a bench and sat down. He wore a coat and sat there for most of the day.
The freezing wind hit, and Finnegan's limbs were turning to ice. His phone rang several times. It was Susan and Celia calling.
Lynn also sent a message, but Finnegan didn't check his phone. He sat there motionless, as if frozen in place.
After an unknown amount of time, a figure suddenly appeared in front of Finnegan. Across the wetland park on a floating bridge stood a woman in a white coat, taking pictures with her phone.
Finnegan couldn't take his eyes off her. When the woman turned to the side, he got a clear view of her face and jumped up with excitement. "Ophelia!"
Finnegan shouted, "Ophelia, Ophelia."
On the floating bridge, about thirty feet away, Lily heard the voice and instinctively looked over at Finnegan.
Lily stood still. She had come here guided by a voice in her heart.
Finnegan, overjoyed, ran towards her. Although it didn't seem far, he had to go around a water corridor to get to the floating bridge.
Afraid that Ophelia might disappear again, Finnegan kept his eyes on her while running excitedly, almost tripping several times.
Lily put her hands in her coat pockets and watched the man running towards her. Before she could say anything, he suddenly hugged her tightly.
The joy of regaining what was lost overwhelmed Finnegan.
"Ophelia, you really came back." Finnegan's voice was hoarse, and he cried.
Lily felt a shock in her heart, accompanied by a pang of pain. She felt inexplicably sad, and her eyes welled up with tears.
Finnegan, excited, let her go and looked at the face he had longed for day and night. He smiled. "Ophelia, you're back. It's good that you're back."
He didn't even dare to ask why Ophelia hadn't returned for the past six months. As long as she was back, that was the best ending.
"Sir, you've got it wrong. I'm not your wife," Lily said. "My name is Lily. I don't know you."
