Chapter 485 Remembering
Ophelia's heart was in turmoil. She didn't know whether to hope that Wilder was her biological father or to hope that it was all a misunderstanding.
Ophelia felt sorry for her mother, who had suffered so much in her life.
Finnegan took Ophelia's hand and said, "Let's go back to the hotel and wait for Mr. Jennings' response."
Finnegan also wanted to uncover the truth.
Wilder and Mrs. Katherine returned home, where Vera was already waiting.
Vera said, "Brother Wilder, sister-in-law Katherine."
Katherine knew why Vera had come. She took the lead and said to Vera, "Vera, I have something for you. Follow me to the room."
Knowing that the truth would eventually come out, Katherine still wanted to resist, hoping that day would never come.
Vera looked at Wilder. She had urgent matters to discuss and wanted to inquire about the pocket watch. Katherine held her hand and smiled as she walked upstairs, saying, "Come, it's the ruby necklace you like the most. I'll show it to you."
Vera had a love for gemstones and enjoyed collecting them. Upon hearing this, she followed Katherine.
In the room, Vera asked, "Sister-in-law Katherine, where is your ruby necklace?"
"Here." Katherine took it out of the cabinet, smiling as she handed it to Vera. "We've known each other for so many years, and I really like you as a sister. Whenever I have something nice, I always keep it for you. Take a look and see if you like it."
"Wow, it's perfect." Vera opened the box and was pleasantly surprised. "I love it so much. Sister-in-law Katherine, are you giving it to me for a reason?"
Katherine said, "Regarding the pocket watch, I'd like to ask for your help. Don't mention it in front of your brother Wilder. It's been so many years, and he hasn't remembered the past. Let's not disrupt the current balance."
Vera nodded her head with a knowing expression. "Sister-in-law Katherine, I knew it was about this. Do you know the woman in the photo inside the pocket watch? You brought my brother Wilder back from New York back then. You know what happened there. Now that the pocket watch is in that girl's hands, could she be...?"
As Vera thought about her speculation, she covered her mouth in shock. "Oh my goodness."
With an exaggerated expression on Vera's face, Katherine knew the truth couldn't be hidden any longer. She said, "She is your brother's daughter."
"That's my brother's heir. How could she be left outside?" Vera said. "Sister-in-law Katherine, you can't do this."
"I have no choice. Your brother Wilder hasn't remembered the past. Suddenly, a daughter appears. Do you think he can accept it? Tomorrow is the royal wedding, and I don't want any surprises." Katherine held Vera's hand. "Vera, my dear sister Vera, keep this secret."
Vera hesitated. She neither agreed nor refused.
Vera glanced at the ruby necklace before relenting. "Okay, I won't tell him. If he remembers anything, it's not my responsibility."
Katherine smiled faintly. "This ruby necklace is yours."
Wilder returned to the study room and took out the pocket watch he had borrowed from Ophelia.
Opening the pocket watch, Wilder was surprised to see the photo inside.
The young man in the photo looked so much like Lance. The woman beside him was Ophelia's mother. If the man in the photo wasn't Lance, then Lance hadn't been born at that time.
Although Wilder had forgotten what happened in New York, he always knew what he looked like before the plastic surgery.
Wilder couldn't remember when he took a photo with this woman, but if the man in the photo wasn't Lance, then it was him.
It was a photo of him and Ophelia's mother.
'When did I meet Ophelia's mother? What was our relationship?' he thought.
At first sight, Wilder was surprised, but as he looked closer, more memories began to surface in his mind. The woman in the photograph stirred a sense of familiarity within him, evoking a subtle ache in his heart.
Wilder was a man of romance, steadfast in his belief in fate and intuition. Among the entirety of the royal family, he stood as the sole individual who was deeply affectionate yet not frivolous in his affections.
Wilder, plagued by a splitting headache, clutched the pocket watch tightly as memories began to flood his mind gradually. These recollections were solely comprised of the images of the young men and women depicted in the photographs.
Wilder held his head in his hands, in great pain, his eyes reddened, the image of the woman in the photo giving birth to a lovely daughter, the three of them embracing, stuck in his mind.
Wilder sat on the sofa, motionless, tears streaming down his face without him realizing.
Why did he have these memories in his mind?
"Honey." Katherine pushed open the door and entered with a smile, but seeing Wilder in tears, her smile froze. "Honey, what's wrong with you?"
Wilder slowly stood up, looked at Katherine, and handed her the pocket watch, saying solemnly, "Although I don't remember some things, the person in this photo is me. I am Ophelia's father. Please tell me what happened in New York."
