Chapter 140 The Doting Boyfriend Acted Out

Ophelia was taken to the police station for interrogation, and that's when she finally understood what had really happened to Niamh.

After she left the company, Niamh got into her car and drove off. Unfortunately, she encountered a brake failure on the road. Luckily, she escaped with only minor injuries, although it was quite a close call.

The car was sent for inspection and it was determined that someone had tampered with the brakes intentionally. Without hesitating, Niamh accused Ophelia of the sabotage.

As a suspect, it was only natural for the police to investigate Ophelia.

At the hospital, Niamh found herself with a broken leg and had to be admitted. After her wounds were treated, Niamh filed a police report. Soon after, Dovie, upon hearing about her daughter's accident, rushed to the hospital.

Seeing Niamh's leg in a cast, Dovie was overwhelmed with distress. “Niamh, how did you get hurt like this? Are there any other injuries? Let mommy take a look. You scared me to death," she said, unable to bear the thought of losing her daughter again.

"I almost didn't get to see you, Mom," Niamh said with a shiver of fear, taking Dovie' hand and crying out, "Ophelia is so vicious. Just because I fired her, she took revenge on me and tried to take my life."

"How does this have anything to do with Ophelia? Why did you fire her?" Dovie was too wrapped up in her own business to know that Ophelia had been fired.

Niamh exaggerated the story, "Ophelia was negligent at work, leaving early without finishing her tasks, and even turned off her phone when called. This morning I reprimanded her, and she talked back and said she wanted to quit, so I let her go. I had no idea Ophelia could be so malicious and vindictive to sabotage my car's brakes and try to kill me."

While Dovie sympathized with her daughter, she found the accusation hard to believe. "Niamh, are you sure you're not mistaken? Ophelia doesn't seem like that kind of person."

"Mom, I almost died, and you're still taking Ophelia's side? Who is your daughter, me or Ophelia?" Niamh said, her emotions running high. "I've already called the police. If you don't believe me, go ask them. The car was inspected, and the brakes were indeed tampered with by someone."

"Niamh, let's stay calm. I'm not taking sides, it's just hard to believe. Let's clear this up before jumping to conclusions. If it's a misunderstanding, we would be falsely accusing Ophelia," Dovie said soothingly. "There's no need to rush."
"Mom, you've been deceived by Ophelia's looks. Just you wait; when the police find the evidence, I won't let her get away with this. She'll be waiting to go to jail."

Niamh was livid. She had been back with the Parks family for ten years, and this was the first time her mother had sided with an outsider and not her own daughter. This only deepened Niamh's resentment toward Ophelia.

Dovie looked at her daughter, who was seething with anger, and felt very concerned. When Niamh had first returned to the Parks family, she was quite rebellious, with many bad habits like fighting, truancy, getting tattoos, and drinking. She had caused a lot of trouble, and it was always Dovie cleaning up the mess.

Dovie remembered clearly when Niamh, at eighteen, had just gotten her driver's license and went out for a drive, only to get into an accident and hit someone. Dovie had used money to settle that incident too.

It was after that incident that Niamh began to reign herself in, and Dovie sent her overseas to study, hoping to temper her personality. Unfortunately, Niamh wasn't cut out for academics, and even her diploma was bought with money. Dovie had gone to great lengths to add a layer of polish to her daughter's image.

Just moments ago, she had seen a glimpse of her daughter's most rebellious years, and it left her feeling uneasy.

The police arrived, and Dovie went out to talk to them, inquiring about the true nature of the incident. "We've already taken the suspect in for questioning," the police said. "Currently, there is no direct evidence linking the car accident to Ophelia."

Dovie, concerned, asked, "What about Ophelia? Is she still at the station?"

"She is still there for now, but if we don't find any evidence of her guilt within forty-eight hours, she will naturally be released."

Dovie, with a clear and logical mind, suggested, "My daughter's car had a brake failure. If it was indeed tampered with, you could check the parking lot surveillance to find out who did it. There were no issues when she drove to the company in the morning, so it must have been done in the company’s parking lot."

"The car was parked in a blind spot of the surveillance, so we couldn't capture who tampered with the vehicle," the officer replied.

The most direct piece of evidence was gone. They couldn't convict Ophelia, but neither could they clear her name, leaving her to stay in the station for the full forty-eight hours.

At Abbott's Corporation, Finnegan had just returned from outside to find Caspian lurking suspiciously near the office door.

Finnegan appeared behind him and clapped him on the shoulder, "What are you being so sneaky about?"

Caspian felt guilty, "Finnegan, I just missed you and came to see you. It feels like an eternity passes when we don't see each other for a day."

Finnegan pushed the door to his office open and entered with a cool voice, "We saw each other yesterday. Speak up if you have something to say, and get it out if you have to."

Caspian's eyes darted around as he stammered, "Your mom came to see me this morning, and I accidentally let something slip. She knows about Miss Sinclair now."
