Chapter 244 Pretending to Be Ignorant
Old Abbott and Jude were very happy when they heard Ophe's response.
Jude generously gave Ophe a five-million-dollar card and said, "Use this to buy some nutritional supplements. Don't worry about what Celia said. She asked me to give you this money."
"I also prepared a gift for my great-granddaughter," Old Abbott signaled to Jude and indicated to bring it out.
Jude took out a jewelry box, which revealed shiny gold inside.
In a prestigious family, giving five million dollars wasn't really that surprising.
Ophe's pregnancy was a big deal, so the Abbott's family naturally attached great importance to it.
Even before the child was born, Old Abbott had prepared a set of pure gold bracelets and golden locks.
It was truly something that others envied, especially Lynn.
Ophe also knew that Celia wouldn't prepare the money, but Jude had specifically given it to ease their relationship.
In front of Lynn, Ophe accepted the gift and even said intentionally, "Jude, when you go back, please thank Celia for me."
"This is the gift a grandmother should give. We're family; there's no need to be so formal," Jude smiled and spoke. "Little Finnegan should inform us about this good news. The Abbotts' family is finally having a new child."
Jude was relieved. He had worried that Finnegan was treating marriage like a joke and rushing into it. Now, it seemed that it was true love that made him marry so quickly.
Everyone was chatting and laughing, but Lynn couldn't get a word in. She couldn't quite understand Celia anymore, who let her ruin Ophe and Finnegan while giving Ophe so much in return.
'With a baby in her belly, who can shake Ophe from her stage?' She brooded.
The agent called Lynn and picked her up to record a program.
Lynn knew she had no presence, so out of politeness, she said goodbye to Jude before leaving. "Jude, I have something to do, so I'll leave first."
Jude waved his hand and smiled casually. "Alright, you go ahead."
After Lynn left, Old Abbott insisted that Ophe take her to a Japanese restaurant because she was craving Japanese food.
It was almost lunchtime now, so Ophe took Old Abbott to the Japanese restaurant.
Jude didn't accompany them but went to a nursing home to bring the senile Oscar back to Abbott's Family mansion.
Previously, Oscar had attacked Finnegan and had his brain damaged. Now, he just sat there foolishly, looking at Jude without recognizing him, laughing foolishly.
Jude sighed and coaxed him with a tone one would use with a child, saying, "Come back home with me. I won't ignore you."
Abbott's uncle was sent to prison by Finnegan, and now Oscar was senile. Jude was worried that Oscar would be bullied, so he caved in and took him to the old mansion.
Oscar laughed foolishly and mumbled with a slanted mouth, "Jude, sugar, I want to eat sugar."
"Alright, I will buy it for you." Jude couldn't bear it and bought some candy for Oscar on their way back home.
Oscar was very happy. He snatched the lollipop and immediately put it in his mouth to eat.
Jude felt heartbroken, seeing a man in his twenties with a foolish smile eating a lollipop. It seemed that this was how his life was going to end.
The doctor had also said that his brain was damaged, and he would never recover.
"Take your time eating, there's more." Jude sighed again.
When they arrived at the Abbott's Family mansion, Oscar started running around and shouted, "Butterfly."
Jude followed and told him, "Oscar, don't run. There's a pond ahead."
In front of the mansion was an artificial pond with lotus flowers in it. On top of the pond, there was a corridor and a gazebo. To get to the living room, one had to walk through the corridor.
Oscar continued to chase after the butterfly and accidentally bumped into Celia, who was about to leave.
Celia exclaimed, "Are you blind?"
Celia scolded, and Oscar seemed scared. He quickly hid behind Jude, who soothed him with a smile. "Good boy, Oscar, don't be scared. This is Celia. Greet her."
Oscar was timid and hid behind Jude.
Celia's face darkened when she saw Oscar. "Jude, why did you bring him back?"
"Oscar's brain is damaged, and he has the intelligence of a two or three-year-old. And his father was in prison. Suppose I don't take care of him, who would?"
Oscar also had biological brothers, but he was mentally disabled, so his brothers might not take care of him.
"But you can't bring a disabled person back," Celia said unsympathetically. "Abbott's uncle went to jail, which was well-deserved, and he even tried to harm Little Finnegan. If it hadn't been for Little Finnegan's luck, he would have died in City A. And Oscar had someone hurt Little Finnegan and made him have such a long scar on his back. Have you forgotten? You're bringing an enemy back."
An evil glint flashed in Oscar's eyes when he listened to Celia's scolding.
