Chapter 453 Almost Lost

The baby didn't cry, looking innocent and naive.

The female doctor pulled up the blanket, covering the baby's face, and carried the child out through the back door.

Just as she walked out the back door, a figure appeared in front of her.

"Where are you taking the child?"

It was Tate who spoke.

Tate was a ruthless woman of few words, staring at the female doctor. "Is this Ophelia's child?"

The female doctor's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to say no, but under Tate's intimidating gaze, she could only confess honestly, "Yes, I'm taking the child to the neonatal department for examination."

"Taking the back door for an examination?" Tate's eyes were filled with hostility. "Hand the child over to me."

The female doctor held onto the baby tightly. "Let me do it. The neonatal department is very close to here, just up the stairs. The baby is very delicate as a newborn. Holding them incorrectly can easily hurt the baby."

Tate thought about it and realized she lacked experience in holding babies. "Alright, you take the baby to the neonatal department now. I'll go with you."

Under Tate's watchful eyes, the female doctor had no choice but to carry the baby up the stairs to the neonatal department.

The neonatal department was upstairs, which was convenient to reach from the stairs, but it was also easy to go down to the underground parking lot from the stairs.

Before leaving the hospital, Finnegan had instructed Tate to keep a close watch.

Sure enough, if Tate had not been careful, there would have been trouble.

When the baby arrived at the neonatal department, the female doctor handed it over to another doctor for examination. Tate stopped her, "I didn't say you could leave."

The female doctor remained calm, "Is there anything else?"

"Whether there is or not, you will have to explain to the police later," Tate said, "Maybe by then, you'll figure out what to say."

Upon hearing this, the female doctor's face turned pale. "What did I do wrong? I just carried the baby upstairs for an examination. There's no need to involve the police."

Tate didn't waste time with the female doctor, as she wasn't one to engage in unnecessary conversation.

Tate removed the female doctor's work badge. The female doctor's name was Zoey, and after noting down her information, Tate focused on examining the baby.
Tate also called Finnegan to come to the neonatal department.

While Tate was busy with the baby, Zoey, feeling anxious, sneaked to the stairwell to make a call. "I didn't manage to get the baby out. A woman stopped me. This attempt failed. They were talking about calling the police. What should I do now?"

Upon receiving the call, Finnegan immediately arrived at the neonatal department, where he saw his daughter, who had just been examined, and his heart finally relaxed.

The doctor in the neonatal department said, "Mr. Abbott, this is your daughter. She's been examined, and she weighs 7.72 pounds. Everything is normal."

7.72 pounds was considered relatively light for a newborn.

Finnegan took his daughter in his hands, looking at her tiny form. A smile of happiness spread across his face.

This was his and Ophelia's daughter. He now had a daughter.

When Lucky reached out to grab something, Finnegan extended his finger, and Lucky grasped it, providing a sense of security, much like holding onto an umbilical cord.

Her hands were small and tender. Lucky's hand was about half the size of Finnegan's finger. At that moment, when his daughter grasped his finger, his heart softened, and his eyes grew moist.

"Lucky, I'm your dad. We finally meet."

Finnegan kissed Lucky's hand gently, refraining from kissing elsewhere, mindful of the child's vulnerability.

Ophelia had not yet come out, and Tate recounted the recent events to Finnegan in detail.

Finnegan's expression darkened. "Tate, don't tell Ophe about this. You handle it first."

"Understood, I'll go now." Tate left first.

Finnegan carried Lucky downstairs, back to the ward, and handed Lucky over to Celia and Jude.

Seeing the child, Celia asked excitedly, "Is it a boy or a girl?"

"A girl," Finnegan replied., "Mom, give Lucky some formula milk to drink. The doctor instructed me not to give too much. Or ask the doctor to help. I'll go see Ophe."

In this private hospital, there were doctors specifically assigned to care for babies and mothers.

Finnegan asked Celia to handle it to make her happy.

"A girl! I have a granddaughter now. Let me hold her." Celia was ecstatic, her smile was wide as she took her granddaughter in her arms. "Oh, she's so pretty, with a small nose and mouth and big eyes. When she grows up, she'll be a beauty. The Abbott family now has a granddaughter. Jude, call your mom and share the good news."
