Chapter 212 I Can't Bear to Lose
Ophe changed into a loose-fitting skirt. Although her baby bump wasn't obvious yet, she had gained some weight and felt more comfortable in looser clothes.
On their way to the engagement, Ophe confessed to Finnegan, "I gave Seraphina 1.5 million dollars. I asked her to pay back 5,000 dollars a month, with a term of 25 years. I found her a job, and as long as she settles down for a year, I will cancel the loan contract. This money can be considered as borrowed from you, and I will repay it."
"Ophe, we are a couple. My money is completely at your disposal. You don't have to feel any pressure," Finnegan interrupted her with a smile. "Earning so much money every year, I don't even know how to spend it. It's just right for you to help spend some, whether it's for Magnus or Seraphina. Use money to solve problems freely. Your husband, I, have plenty of money."
Ophe looked at Finnegan, deeply moved, and her lips curled into a smile. "Honey, I feel like you're especially charming at this moment."
He chuckled. "Is it because of the smell of money?"
She burst into laughter, nodding repeatedly. "Yes, there's a hint of a coppery smell to the money. But I like it."
With one hand on the steering wheel, he held her hand and kissed it lightly before saying, "Honey, try to simplify things in your mind. Life will be much better if you don't dwell on fairness too much. If you always insist on fairness in everything, your heart won't be at ease. Besides, absolute fairness is impossible. The suffering you endure when you're pregnant and giving birth is something I can't possibly bear it for you. So, spend my money freely, without any psychological burden."
Finnegan rarely spoke so much. In the past, he would be silent. But in front of Ophe, he was just an ordinary man.
Ophe recorded every penny she received from Finnegan and even prepared for the worst. If something happened between the two of them in the future, she would return every penny without any deductions.
In fact, she always felt like she was taking advantage of him, her pride getting the better of her.
Finnegan completely understood her inner thoughts and comforted her as such.
Ophe felt particularly touched and didn't want Finnegan to see tears in her eyes, so she turned and looked out the window.
Those were tears of happiness and emotion.
She thought Finnegan didn't know, but in reality, he saw it all.
He didn't say anything; he just rubbed her head and gave her encouragement silently.
In fact, Ophe, an orphan, needed a lot of love. Before meeting Finnegan, Magnus had given her the greatest love and kindness she had ever received.
What Finnegan gave was different from Magnus's. Finnegan was like a husband, a friend, and sometimes even like a father. His love healed her unfortunate childhood and made her fall for him, allowing her to settle down with him quickly.
In front of him, her previous pretense of strength became unnecessary. He indulged her like a child.
Ophe wiped her eyes and said, "I often see videos online of husbands being cold and violent toward their wives, being cunning and not providing money for the pregnant wife's living expenses, or not allowing a cesarean section during childbirth. I always think about how lucky I am."
"In the future, watch less of these things. Your hormones are elevated during pregnancy, which greatly affects your emotions." He softly advised, "Life is short yet long. It's worth living well while we're alive."
Ophe smiled and sniffed. "How come you have such sentimental thoughts? I thought successful people like you wouldn't have such sentiments."
Finnegan turned and glanced at her, his lips curling up. "Ophe, when those distant branches of the Abbott's Family tried to take over the company and cause trouble, I could mercilessly send them to prison or the hospital? It's because I'm not afraid of death, but now I am."
Ophe asked, "Why?"
His eyes were filled with love. "Because there are people in this world that I can't bear to lose."
Ophe's nose tingled, and her eyes turned red.
"Actually, I'm afraid of death too."
She also had people she couldn't bear to lose.
She used to be someone who dared to take risks and pursue her goals, but now she did not.
Everyone who came into this world was destined to leave, but once one had attachments, it would be hard to let go.
The two exchanged a knowing smile without saying a word.
Soon, they arrived at a club, and after entering a private room, Ophe realized that Dovie was also there.
Natalie accompanied Dovie. When Natalie saw Ophe for the first time, she inexplicably felt nervous and couldn't help but stare at her.
