Chapter 85 The Old Lady Abbott with Alzheimer

What solidified Finnegan's suspicion about Ophelia being his mysterious companion was the kiss from the previous evening. There was a familiarity, a combustible urge to merge with his very marrow, identical to the sensations of that night.

Back at Orchid Garden, curiosity got the better of him and Finnegan opened the email. He needed to be certain. When he saw Ophelia slipping out of his room with a guilty haste, a surge of elation washed over him.

It had been her indeed.

Finnegan's lips curved into a smile involuntarily because, that night, she had been with him.

He pondered Ophelia's peculiar behavior since that night. In the office, she acted like a mouse caught by a cat whenever she saw him. When he mistakenly thought she led a promiscuous life, she retorted with anger, warning that someone might show up one day claiming to be his child. When he was in a car accident, she wept with distress, sobbing about what she would do without him. It was all real.

He was particularly curious about how Ophelia felt when she thought she was pregnant. Did she decide to keep the baby because she mistakenly believed it was his? This thought made Finnegan's happiness grow. The "jerk" he had envied turned out to be none other than himself.

After watching the security footage over a dozen times and repeatedly reliving that passionate night, as well as the bright red stain on the sheets, Finnegan knew that bringing up that night to make her his girlfriend might infuriate Ophelia. She could assume he was trying to keep her as a mistress.

Therefore, Finnegan decided to court Ophelia the old-fashioned way, not by using that night to bind her to him. His woman was someone he would pursue himself.

The Abbott family men were known for their deep devotion. Once they set their heart on someone, it was settled. The love stories of Old lady Abbott and George were sensational, and because of their unfortunate endings, Old lady Abbott had an unwritten rule for his descendants. The Abbott family would accept a partner regardless of their social standing as long as there was genuine affection.

Ophelia was the only woman who had ever moved Finnegan Abbot in his thirty years.

The following day at the office, Finnegan asked Linda to buy a gift. Christmas was approaching, and he wanted to prepare a Christmas present for Ophelia.

Linda inquired, "Mr. Abbott, who is this gift for?"

"The future lady of Abbott's Corporation," Finnegan replied cheerfully. "Also, pass the word that everyone in the secretary department will get double their bonus this month."

Overjoyed, Linda thanked him, "Thank you, Mr. Abbott! You are so generous. By the way, who is the future Mrs. Abbott? Mr. Abbott, are you in love again?"

Her emphasis on "again" was ripe with meaning.

Seraphina had been kicked out of Orchid Garden, and that sure as hell meant that there was a new flame on the horizon.

Linda, ever so curious, wondered who this new love interest could be.

Finnegan said enigmatically, "You'll find out in time."

"Thanks for the bonus, Mr. Abbott," Linda said, not prying further, "Oh, by the way, Mr. Abbott, they called from the old mansion earlier. They want you to drop by. Your grandma's been asking for you."

It had been quite a while since Finnegan had visited the Abbott Family estate.

Finnegan gestured dismissively, "Yeah, got it. You can go now."

Once Linda stepped out, she immediately sought gossip from Atticus, "Mr. Montgomery, is Mr. Abbott dating someone new? Who is it? Mr. Abbott seemed in a really good mood today—he even gave us secretaries a raise."

Finnegan hadn't said a word, so of course, Atticus was not about to spill any beans.

Atticus just smiled and parroted, "You'll find out in time."

"Mr. Montgomery, how come you and Mr. Abbott talk the same, all mysterious?" Linda sighed, surrendering, "Fine, I won't ask. I'm off to buy a gift. Mr. Abbott's preparing a Christmas present for his girlfriend."

At the Abbott Family estate.

After wrapping up his business, Finnegan finally managed to make time to return to the old family home.

Old lady Abbott was coping with Alzheimer's and now had trouble recognizing people, yet she could always remember Finnegan.

As Finnegan parked his car, old lady Abbott, dressed in a dark-colored cheongsam, came out to greet him with childlike excitement.

Old lady Abbott was in good health and briskly walking, even breaking into a light run, as she said, "My grandson's come back."

The nanny followed anxiously, worried the old lady might fall.

"Madam, slow down. Be careful not to fall," she cautioned.

"Grandma," Finnegan called out, also worried as he saw her running towards him. He quickly moved to support her.

Old lady Abbott craned her neck to peek into Finnegan's car and, seeing no one else, felt a bit disappointed. "Finnegan, why haven't you brought me a granddaughter-in-law yet? I remember you had an engagement with the Parks Family. Let's go over to the Parks Family and formally propose. It's my dearest wish to see you married soon."
