Chapter 172 Finding Out the Truth
After offending Niamh, Ophe was well aware that if she stayed, Niamh would make it difficult for her.
However, Dovie treated her well and greatly appreciated her. Ophe didn't want to disappoint him and chose to stay.
Listening to Niamh's sarcastic remarks, Ophe thought about how she had married Finnegan, the man Niamh had always yearned for. If Niamh found out, she would likely go crazy with anger.
Ophe replied tactfully, "Thank you for your praise, Niamh."
She ignored the sarcasm in Niamh's words and played dumb.
Niamh was infuriated by Ophe's calmness. "Ophe, you have the ability. After I fired you, you still came back. Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
Ophe chuckled lightly. "Niamh, it's a society ruled by law now. I believe that as long as I haven't done anything wrong, it won't be so easy for you to get rid of me. Besides, I'm just an ordinary person, while you are a noble lady of Parks Corporation. It's not worth it for you to break the law to take revenge on me. What do you think?"
Niamh sneered. "Ophe, then you better be extremely careful. Don't let me catch you making a mistake. Otherwise, you will regret offending me."
Ophe nodded slightly. "Thank you for the reminder, Niamh. I will remember it."
Seated in her wheelchair, Niamh arrogantly ordered. "Go have dinner with Paxton from the Grande Group tonight and get the contract for the Walfin project signed. Tomorrow morning, I want to see the contract on my desk."
Paxton from the QY Group was known for his lecherous behavior; he would harass each woman in front of him.
Ophe naturally understood Niamh's intention. It was a clever move to use someone else's influence to achieve her goal.
"Alright, if there's nothing else, then I'll go get busy."
Niamh ominously said, "I'm looking forward to seeing your performance tonight."
"Niamh, you will be satisfied soon." Ophe smiled before she turned and left.
As soon as Ophe left, Niamh made a phone call. "Get me the strongest medicine available, and I need it tonight..."
Back at her seat, Ophe contemplated how to handle the evening.
Suddenly, Ophe overheard two colleagues behind her discussing a place called Apex Village.
Ophe remembered Magnus mentioning that his biological parents were from a southern village called Apex Village.
Ophe swiveled the chair and turned around with a smile, asking her colleague, "Sister Addison, is your hometown Apex Village? Is the Apex Village located below Chengdu in the south?"
Addison, who was over thirty years old and still single, had been working at Parks Corporation for nearly ten years. She had an average appearance and body figure, was particularly frugal, and it was rumored that she sent all her earnings back home to support her family, build a house for them, and help her younger brother find a wife. She had been quietly working at the company for ten years, staying low-key and content, but as she aged, she remained unmarried. Addison's family background made most men far away.
Ophe had been with the company for half a year and was unaware of where Addison was from.
Addison nodded and replied, "Yes, Ophe. How do you know about that village? Are you from there, too?'
"No, I'm not." Ophe moved closer with a smile. "Addison, I want to ask you about someone. In that village, are there any families with the surname Cobb?"
Addison said, "Yes, our village is a big one. There are several families with the surname Cobb. Who do you want to ask about?"
"Tobias, do you know him?" Considering the age difference between Tobias and Addison, the likelihood of them being acquainted seemed slim. Ophe continued. "Or maybe your family knows him? Tobias is in his sixties, and he has a paralyzed elder son. The son became paralyzed a few years ago, and his wife left him. Is there any truth to all this?"
Ophe wanted to find out what kind of person Tobias was, especially since several of his children had died unexpectedly - something that seemed a bit unusual.
After carefully thinking for a moment, Addison seemed to recall something and said, "I know the person you're talking about. His house is located behind my family's house, separated by a hill. We don't interact often, but I remember my father mentioning that his family used to be a well-known household in the village, but it went downhill. Their oldest son had an accident and became paralyzed, and his wife left him. Ophe, why are you asking about all this? What's your relationship with his family?"
Ophe chuckled and replied, "I'm just asking for a friend, Addison. So, do you happen to know about the accidents that occurred with Tobias' children?"
