Chapter 186 Unfortunate Childhood

Magnus had an accident.

Ophe hurriedly drove to the hospital and was stunned when she saw Magnus lying weak and emaciated in the hospital bed.

It hadn't been that long since they last saw each other, but why had Magnus become so thin?

When Magnus saw Ophe, he was somewhat at a loss. "Ophe, why are you here?"

Magnus had collapsed on the roadside and was brought to the hospital. Ophe was listed as his emergency contact, so the hospital called her.

As the doctor was administering intravenous fluids to Magnus, Ophe walked in and asked, "Doctor, what's wrong with my friend?"

Ophe didn't bother asking Magnus; he definitely wouldn't tell the truth.

The doctor said, "The patient is severely anemic and malnourished. He is overworking and neglecting nutrition, which led to his coma. Even though young people may be in good health, they can't push themselves that hard. Rest is the foundation of revolution, and they must pay attention to resting and replenishing nutrients."

The words "severely anemic and malnourished" stunned Ophe. They used to be orphans, relying on themselves to go to school and make a living. Even in the most difficult times, they had never experienced malnutrition. How could he be malnourished now?

Ophe immediately thought of Magnus' biological parents, those bloodsuckers who wanted to drain him dry.

Suppressing her anger, Ophe said to the doctor, "Thank you, doctor. I'll make sure he rests more and pays attention to nutrition."

"Okay," the doctor said. "After this IV drip is finished, you can go home. But remember to rest and avoid any further exhaustion."

After the doctor's advice, the room was left with only Ophe and Magnus.

Magnus felt somewhat ashamed and couldn't meet Ophe's gaze.

Ophe remained silent, just staring at him. She was very angry that Magnus had let himself get into this state and didn't even want to seek her help.

"Ophe, I'm fine. The doctor was exaggerating..." Magnus felt guilty and came up with a flimsy excuse. "I've been trying to lose weight recently, so I eat less. It's not a big deal, really."

Ophe pulled over a chair and sat by the bed, staring at Magnus as she said, "Why did you exhaust yourself to the point of fainting? Severe malnutrition and anemia... We used to work on construction sites, handling steel bars, and never ended up like this. I want to hear the truth."

Ophe's tone was serious, showing that she meant business.

Knowing Ophe's temperament, Magnus honestly replied, "I just wanted to earn more money. After work, I took on a part-time job delivering takeout. When things got busy, I forgot to eat. Ophe, I'll pay more attention to rest from now on. Don't worry about me."

What Magnus said was only the tip of the iceberg.

He worked as a delivery driver and part-time Uber driver. When the delivery orders dwindled after 10 PM, he switched to driving for Uber until around 3 AM.

He had to go to work again at 8:30 AM the next day, with only five hours of sleep, which was not enough at all.

In order to make more money, he also went to donate blood for money.

Serenity had found a good school, but the tuition was too expensive. Thatwwas why Magnus was anxious to earn more money to pay for Serenity's tuition.

After Seraphina moved out, she once asked him for money. He didn't have any money, so he borrowed two thousand dollars from his coworker to give to Seraphina.

Ophe didn't suspect anything and said, "Starting today, no more deliveries. If you need help, let me know. We agreed before that we share the good times and the burdens. Finnegan gave me a lot of money..."

"That was given to you. How can I accept it?" Magnus interrupted Ophe, saying, "What will Abbott's Family think of you? I can't hold you back."

"If you end up like this, how can I be at ease?" Ophe asked, "Tell me, why are you so short of money? Is it because your parents asked you to pay for Jett's medical expenses again? Magnus, it would help if you were realistic. Jett is not your responsibility. Why should you take care of him?"

"Serenity has come to New York," Magnus said, looking at Ophe. "Now, I have adopted her, and I am her father. I have to take care of her. She is still so young and needs to go to school."

"Magnus, you're confused," Ophe said angrily. "You're a single man. How are you going to handle being a father for someone else? They will drag you down."

Tears welled up in Magnus' eyes as he struggled to force a smile. "Ophe, they are my family. I can't just ignore them. When we eat together as a family, it feels really warm. It's something I've never experienced before."

Thinking of the hardships of recent times, Magnus couldn't hold back his emotions any longer, and his eyes became moist.

Ophe felt especially sorry for him. She understood Magnus's longing for a family.

After having had an unfortunate childhood and a lack of family love, it really takes a lifetime to heal.

Ophe stopped trying to persuade him and accompanied Magnus as he received his IV treatment at the hospital. As they were about to be discharged, a blood donor card accidentally fell out of Magnus' pocket. Ophe could no longer control her emotions.
