Chapter 551 The Purpose of Returning
When Ophelia saw that the person holding Warmie was a middle-aged man she didn't recognize, she became even more cautious. "Warmie, let mommy hold you."
Ophelia walked over and took Warmie from the middle-aged man's arms.
Lloyd noticed Ophelia's wariness and smiled, "You must be this child's mother, Ophelia? I've heard a lot about you from Jude."
Ophelia was puzzled.
Jude smiled and said, "Ophelia, this is Lloyd Abbott, the one I mentioned to you before. He came back today, and Warmie loves playing with him. She's been so happy."
'The Lloyd Abbott who has been missing for thirty years?' she thought.
Ophelia looked at Lloyd in surprise. This was too sudden. She had just heard about this person recently, and now he was back?
'Why now, of all times? she thought.
"Hello, Lloyd," Ophelia greeted politely.
Lloyd smiled kindly, "We're all family, no need to be so formal."
Ophelia didn't say much. For some reason, she felt an inexplicable discomfort toward Lloyd.
"Dad, Lloyd, I'm going to take Warmie upstairs to play for a while." Ophelia found an excuse to take Warmie away.
Jude said, "Alright, go ahead. Warmie should be getting to bed soon."
Ophelia carried Warmie upstairs. On the second floor, she stood at the top of the stairs for a moment and glanced back at Lloyd in the living room.
Lloyd happened to be looking in her direction as well. Feeling a bit guilty, Ophelia quickly looked away and carried Warmie to her room. Just as she was about to open the door, she saw another unfamiliar man coming out from the side.
It was Anthony.
Ophelia didn't recognize him and gave him a glance.
Anthony also glanced at Ophelia, his face indifferent, and then went downstairs.
With two strange people suddenly in the house, Ophelia felt very uneasy.
After putting Warmie to sleep, Ophelia asked Celia about the situation and learned that the man she saw was named Anthony, Lloyd's apprentice, and that they were both staying at the house temporarily.
After understanding the situation, Ophelia went to see Susan.
Susan had taken a nap in the afternoon and was still awake.
"Grandma Susan," Ophelia said with a smile as she walked over.
Susan asked, "How is Finnegan doing?"
"Just waiting for a suitable cornea, and then he can have the surgery. You don't need to worry." Ophelia hesitated before asking, "Grandma Susan, I just heard from Jude that Lloyd is back. Why did he come back after thirty years all of a sudden?"
Susan paused her bead-stringing and said, "Everyone comes into this world to repay debts from their past lives. If the debt isn't cleared, they will eventually return."
Ophelia asked, "Grandma Susan, you didn't look for Lloyd for thirty years because you were sure he would come back? Lloyd's return this time isn't just for a reunion."
Susan sighed deeply, "You are very perceptive, seeing through things others might not. But I don't know why Lloyd came back this time. He has grievances in his heart. It's been thirty years. I don't know if he's let them go."
"Grandma Susan, are you referring to the argument you had thirty years ago?" Ophelia asked curiously. "What happened that made Lloyd leave for thirty years?"
Susan hesitated, perhaps because she had kept it buried for too long. After a moment of contemplation, she said, "Lloyd is not my child. He is the son of a friend. Lloyd's father was working for an enemy country and was killed by an angry mob when his actions were exposed. Lloyd's mother, my good friend, was worried that Lloyd would be ostracized and unable to live a normal life, so she entrusted him to me before committing suicide. The argument back then was because Lloyd mistakenly believed that I had reported his father, leading to his parents' tragic deaths. Lloyd left and didn't return for thirty years. I sent people to look for him, but there was no news. I've been thinking about Lloyd all these years."
Hearing this, Ophelia was still very surprised. She hadn't expected such a story. "Then who reported Lloyd's father?"
Susan shook her head. "I don't know. It happened fifty years ago. During chaotic times, many people were wrongfully killed."
