Chapter 391: Acting Chairman

On the other end of the phone, the man said, "I didn't expect those guys to be so untrustworthy. Don't worry, I still have a sense of honor. I owe you a favor, and after this, we'll be even."
"I'll be waiting for your news. France is chaotic. It's common for someone to die on the streets," Natalie said. "This small matter shouldn't be beyond your capabilities."
"I'll be in touch," the man on the other end of the line said curtly, not wasting words with Natalie.
After hanging up, Natalie felt a wave of anxiety, worried that the plan might fail and that she might be exposed.
Suddenly, she felt dizzy and quickly sat down on the nearby couch. Lately, she had been feeling unwell.
Before Natalie could recover, she heard the maid's panicked voice from upstairs. "Natalie, something's wrong! Dovie has fainted again!"
Hearing that Dovie had fainted, Natalie rushed upstairs.
Dovie had collapsed in the study room. Natalie quickly said, "Get the driver to prepare the car and take her to the hospital."
Dovie, unconscious, was quickly taken to the hospital.
This time, Dovie wasn't as lucky. After being taken to the emergency room, she hadn't come out even after an hour.
Natalie hurriedly called Niamh. "Niamh, Dovie is in trouble again. She fainted and is in the hospital."
This was all within Niamh's expectations. Unless Dovie was incapacitated, Niamh wouldn't have the chance to take over the company.
"Got it. I'll be there right away," Niamh said, feigning urgency in her voice.
After over an hour of emergency treatment, the doctor came out and said, "The patient's condition is very critical. She needs to be moved to the intensive care unit."
"What happened? She was fine when she was discharged. How could she faint again so soon after being released?" Natalie was both anxious and puzzled.
"The patient's organs are failing, and today, her condition is worse than when she was discharged," the doctor said. "Did anything unusual happen during her time at home? Did she collapse suddenly?"
"She collapsed suddenly with no warning," Natalie said. "Nothing unusual happened. She wasn't overexerted. She was resting, taking her medication on time, and had a good appetite. There's no reason for her condition to worsen."
"Her current condition is very serious. Whether she pulls through depends on her luck. You should be prepared for the worst," the doctor said.
Hearing this, Natalie felt deeply troubled.
Soon, Dovie was moved to the intensive care unit. When Niamh arrived, she found Natalie anxiously waiting outside the ICU.
Niamh asked urgently, "How is Dovie?"
"Not good." Natalie sniffled. "Niamh, the doctor said we should be prepared for the worst."
"Is it that serious?" Niamh said. "What will we do if the board finds out about Dovie's condition? The company will be in chaos."
Natalie was also worried about this. "Your mother is unconscious, and there's nothing we can do. We have to keep this news under wraps. Once she regains consciousness, we need her to agree to you acting as chairman."
This was exactly what Niamh had been waiting for. She had already arranged everything with the board. As soon as Dovie gave her authorization, she could officially take over the company.
Niamh had tasted power and now craved it, no longer content with just indulging in leisure.
Dovie regained consciousness in the afternoon. Niamh deliberately spread the news of Dovie's critical condition, prompting the board members to visit the hospital.
Feigning urgency, Niamh said, "Don't scare me like this. If something happens to you, what will I do? By the way, the board members are outside and want to see you."
Dovie, weak and frail, glanced at Niamh and then at Natalie, who was wiping her tears.
Dovie felt she was nearing the end.
"Where does it hurt? Tell me," Natalie said. "You scared me to death. How did your condition worsen so suddenly? The doctor said we should be prepared for the worst. This is too sudden."
Dovie weakly said, "I'm fine."
Natalie, looking anxious, said, "The company is in chaos right now. It can't be without a chairperson. Niamh doesn't have much influence in the company. If something happens to you, what will happen to the Parks Corporation? I was thinking maybe Niamh could temporarily act as chairwoman to stabilize things until you recover."
Dovie knew she no longer had the energy to manage the company. Niamh was her daughter, and she had no choice but to let Niamh stabilize the situation.
Holding Niamh's hand, Dovie solemnly said, "Niamh, the company is your grandfather's legacy. It would help if you managed it well and not act so recklessly. Always remember you're a member of the Parks family. The company is now in your hands."
After boss's baby, she Escape
