Chapter 684 The First Encounter
Lynn did it on purpose. When Wilder's car accident sent him into the river, he had a fighting chance. But Ophelia fell into the ocean, the wild, raging ocean.
Even on a calm day, no matter how good a swimmer you are, you can't last long in the deep sea, especially with a typhoon that could snatch your life in an instant.
But people need hope to keep going.
Hearing that Ophelia might still be alive, a flicker of hope lit up in Finnegan's eyes.A spark in the darkness.
"Did Celia send you?" Finnegan asked.
"Everyone's really worried about you," Lynn said. "With you gone, the Abbott family lost its rock. Celia's been sick twice, Susan ended up in the hospital once, and Warmie’s doing okay, just a cold. No one wanted to tell you because they didn't want you to worry, but they all hoped you'd come back."
Too many comforting words had been said, and everyone knew it.
"You'll stay at the monastery tonight. I'll have Francis set up a place for you," Finnegan said, gently placing Warmie on the bed.
Lynn, understanding, didn't say more.
Lynn and the nanny settled in at the monastery. Finnegan didn't agree to go back, but his reluctance to leave Warmie was a good sign.
The snowy mountain scenery around the monastery was beautiful. Lynn had been so busy with work for years that he hadn't taken the time to enjoy life and the snowy mountains.
While Warmie slept, Finnegan took Lynn to dinner. After the flight and the drive to the monastery, Lynn hadn't eaten yet.
After they left, Eli sneaked into the room. Seeing no one there, he was about to leave when he noticed a little child on the bed.
Curious, Eli walked over and stood by the bed, looking at the sleeping Warmie. "Wow, what a cute kid."
Eli was surprised to see such a beautiful child in the monastery, so cute. He couldn't help but reach out to touch Warmie's face.
With that caress, Warmie woke up, her big eyes filled with confusion and curiosity. The two kids just stared at each other.
Warmie didn't cry or fuss, just lay there on the bed.
Eli was a bit nervous at first, but seeing that Warmie didn't cry, he reached out and caressed her again. "What's your name?"
Warmie couldn't talk well yet. She blinked, turned over, and sat up on the bed, looking at Eli. She mimicked Eli and reached out to caress his face.
Eli got what Warmie meant and squatted down a bit, bringing his face closer to her.
Warmie caressed Eli's face and laughed happily.
When Warmie laughed, she had two little dimples on her chubby cheeks, making her look especially adorable.
Eli laughed too. It was the first time he had seen such a cute little kid. "Hi, I'm Eli. I'm older than you. Want to go outside and build a snowman?"
Warmie didn't understand, but kids love playing with other kids, so she nodded.
Eli reached out to pick up Warmie but noticed she wasn't wearing a coat. Being thoughtful, Eli picked up the coat next to her and helped her put it on.
Five-year-old Eli could eat and dress himself. He was very capable.
So, Eli helped Warmie put on her coat. Warmie slid off the bed, and Eli took her hand and led her outside to play in the snow.
The two kids didn't seem to feel the cold. Eli made a snowball and showed it to Warmie. "Here's a snowball for you."
Warmie laughed and reached out to take it. "Snowball."
Warmie couldn't hold it steady, and the snowball fell apart.
"Eli," Warmie called in her sweet childlike voice.
"It's okay, I'll make you another snowball," Eli said. He didn't have any playmates at the monastery, so Warmiemade him very happy.
The two of them played in the snow, while Finnegan, who had taken Lynn to dinner, returned to find the bed empty. He panicked.
He had thought Warmie wouldn't wake up so soon, which was why he took Lynn over. But in just ten minutes, she was gone.
"Warmie," Finnegan called out anxiously and immediately went out to look for her.
