Chapter 733 Superficial Harmony
Karen felt pretty smug. After wrapping everything up, she headed back to her room.
The next day, Tate got ready for the homecoming party. As soon as she slipped into her gown, she knew something was off.
She was sure Karen had messed with it. The dress was perfect when she tried it on yesterday.
"Tate, let's get to the hotel," Karen urged.
If Tate made any big moves at the party, the zipper would definitely bust, leading to a major wardrobe malfunction.
"You guys go ahead. I'll wait for Caspian," Tate said, staying put. She also told her mom, Barbara, "Mom, you all go first. I'll wait for Caspian to pick me up."
Barbara always went along with Tate's plans.
"Alright, there are lots of guests, and your dad and I need to greet them. It's fine if you come a bit later," Barbara said with a smile. "Karen, you come with us."
Barbara was careful. She worried that if Caspian showed up and Karen saw him, it would make things awkward.
Karen, annoyed but hiding it, said, "Alright, Tate, I'll go with Mom. Can't wait to see your grand entrance later."
Eugene and Barbara took Karen to the hotel. Raymond had some business at the police station before heading over.
Once everyone left, Tate called Caspian, "Come to the Stewart house."
Caspian, on his way to the hotel, got Tate's call and turned his car around without asking why.
Tate took off the gown, grabbed a needle and thread, and fixed the zipper herself.
She called Caspian just to buy some time. She didn't want to fight with Karen today and didn't want to make a scene.
No matter what Karen tried, it wouldn't hurt her.
By the time Caspian arrived, Tate had finished sewing the gown and came downstairs wearing it.
Caspian walked in and saw Tate descending the spiral staircase in a white strapless gown, her hair up, with perfect makeup and white leaf-shaped earrings. She was so freakin' gorgeous he couldn't tear his eyes away.
"Tate, you look amazing," Caspian stammered.
Tate walked up to him and said, "Let's go to the hotel."
"Where'd your folks run off to?" Caspian asked, not seeing anyone else.
"I asked them to go ahead," Tate said. "The party starts at eleven, and it's only ten now. We have plenty of time."
"Nah, the stars of the show gotta make 'em wait, right? We got time," Caspian chuckled, feeling lucky. He wanted to hold Tate's hand but hesitated.
Tate noticed and smiled. She stopped walking and said, "If you don't hold my hand now, we'll be getting in the car."
"I will," Caspian said boldly, taking her hand, feeling completely satisfied.
Tate's dress was long, so Caspian helped lift the hem as they got into the car.
Once inside, Caspian told the driver, "To the hotel."
The homecoming party was at the biggest five-star hotel in Yorkhaven. The Stewart family had booked a hall and invited many important people. Raymond had also invited some colleagues, but due to police regulations, he couldn't invite too many.
Tate's situation was unique. Many knew about Raymond and Tate's relationship during her imprisonment, but it was never fully revealed.
Tate had served her time, and everything was done by the book, including her sentence reduction. Even if someone wanted to cause trouble for Raymond, they couldn't.
Landon was there too. He came with Raymond as a friend.
Landon asked, "Captain Raymond, didn't you invite Finnegan?"
"I did," Raymond replied. "Tate called to invite him."
Tate had a history with Ophelia and Finnegan, so it made sense to invite them.
As they talked, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance.
Landon said, "They're here."
Finnegan and Lily arrived together. In the past, Ophelia and Finnegan were always seen holding hands, visibly affectionate.
But now, Lily walked half a step behind Finnegan, and they seemed distant.
