Chapter 414 Waking Up

Ophelia hurried to the hospital, a route she had taken many times before. But this time, it felt so long, as if she would never arrive.
Today, Ophelia gave Tate a day off and didn't bring her. Linda was driving and accompanied Ophelia.
When they arrived at the hospital, Linda went to park the car while Ophelia headed straight to the ICU. She happened to run into Dr. Golden, whom she had met before, coming out of Dovie's ICU room.
"Dr. Golden." Ophelia approached him urgently. "how is she doing?"
Ophelia had intended to say 'my mom' but changed her words at the last moment.
To outsiders, Niamh was Dovie's daughter, so it wouldn't have been appropriate for her to call Dovie 'mom'.
"Still in a coma. In such cases, we can only hope for a miracle or some stimulus to wake her up." Dr. Golden said. "The patient's organs are failing, and it's irreversible. We've done our best. It's quite strange, though. The patient had a check-up not long ago, and there were no major issues. We have no idea how her condition deteriorated so rapidly in such a short time,"
Ophelia remembered when Dovie had her check-up. It was when she was at the hospital for her prenatal check-up and ran into Dovie. It had only been three or four months since then, and Dovie hadn't shown any signs of illness.
'How could things have gotten so bad?' Ophelia found it puzzling.
"Dr. Golden, I want to know, under what circumstances can someone's health deteriorate so quickly?" Ophelia asked. "The patient has always been health-conscious. Could it be poisoning?"
Dr. Golden shook his head. "We didn't find any toxins in the patient's body, so we can rule that out. A rapid decline in health usually happens under extreme physical strain, such as staying up late, long-term unhealthy diet, high work pressure, irregular routines, and other environmental factors."
Dovie wouldn't eat unhealthy food, her routine was pretty regular, and she didn't have many social engagements. Ophelia couldn't think of any reason for her sudden illness.
"Thank you, Dr. Golden," Ophelia said, "I'd like to go in and see her."
Dr. Golden recognized Ophelia and didn't refuse. "Okay, but not for too long."
"Thank you." Ophelia thanked him and put on sterile clothing to visit.
This time, as Ophelia stepped inside, her nose tingled, and her eyes became moist.
Her mother had always been by her side.
With heavy steps, Ophelia walked to the bedside, looking at the frail and critically ill Dovie, her heart aching.
Unable to help herself, Ophelia held Dovie's hand and called out, "Mom, open your eyes and look at me. I'm Ophelia, your real daughter. I've always been by your side. Since I can remember, I've been wondering where my parents are, what they look like, and why they abandoned me. But I never thought that my mother had always been by my side. We've missed so many years as mother and daughter. You have to wake up and hear me call you 'mom.'"
The comatose Dovie didn't respond at all. Ophelia was overwhelmed with sorrow, tears streaming down her face.
She wiped her tears and gazed at Dovie on the bed. "Mom, did you know that when I was in the orphanage, I envied other kids? They had parents who loved them, someone to comfort them when they cried, and someone to protect them when they were bullied."
Ophelia choked up. "Mom, please wake up and look at me. Give me a chance to talk to you like a kid. Please, hug me so I can feel the warmth of a mother's embrace, show me what it feels like to be a child who is loved by her mother, and give me a chance to be filial."
Ophelia's teardrops fell onto Dovie's hand, one after another.
Suddenly, Dovie's eyes moved. Ophelia noticed and was overjoyed, gripping Dovie's hand tightly. "Mom, Mom, can you hear me? Mom, open your eyes and look at me. I'm Ophelia, your daughter. I did a DNA test. I really am your daughter."
Perhaps it was the mother-daughter bond, but Dovie, in her coma, moved her fingers, and her eyes slowly opened.
After boss's baby, she Escape
