Chapter 429 Ophelia Discovers News About Her Biological Father
Opening the room where Dovie used to live, Ophelia felt sad when seeing everything related to Dovie.
The room was elegantly decorated, with an antique-style dressing table made of sandalwood and Dovie's everyday clothes, bags, and jewelry hanging in the closet.
The housekeeper said, "Dovie was a very particular person. The things she used were quite formal. After her accident, the room was kept exactly the same. No one had touched it."
The housekeeper, Emerson Callahan, had served the Parks Family for over a decade and was very familiar with Dovie's habits.
"Emerson, after my mom passed away, did Natalie and Niamh never enter the room?" Ophelia noticed that the room indeed showed no signs of being disturbed, which seemed unreasonable.
Living under the same roof, even if Natalie and Niamh didn't mourn, they would at least come in to take a look.
"No," Emerson said. "The door to this room has never been opened."
"Emerson, I also want to ask what my mom was like at home when she was alive. I want to know more about her." Ophelia looked around the room, reminiscing about her mother. "We had just reunited, and then she was gone. How much do you know about my dad?"
"I don't know much about Mr. Jennings. I only know that George, when he was alive, repeatedly suggested that Dovie find another man, but she always refused," Emerson said. "It's really not easy for a woman to be a widow for over twenty years. Dovie was a very good person, kind and gentle. It's such a pity she left so suddenly."
Emerson felt sad thinking about it. Although she was just a housekeeper, they had spent over a decade together and had developed feelings.
Ophelia opened a drawer and found photos. The first one was of a young Dovie, lying weakly on a hospital bed after giving birth, with a baby lying quietly beside her. That baby was Ophelia.
Seeing the photo, Ophelia felt a pang of sadness and complex emotions. It was the first and only photo she had with her mother.
Ophelia continued flipping through the album and found a photo of a man with Dovie. Seeing the man's face, Ophelia was astonished because he looked almost identical to Lance, whom she had met before.
Emerson said, "This is Mr. Jennings, your father when he was young. Dovie often looked at this photo and reminisced."
"How can there be two people who look so alike in this world?" Ophelia muttered to herself. Lance was from France and was a royal descendant. How could it be such a coincidence that her father looked like Lance? Moreover, she could tell at a glance that her father was of mixed race.
"Emerson, do you know where my dad was from?" Ophelia asked urgently. "What was his name?"
"I don't know exactly where he was from. I only heard Dovie mention that his surname was Jennings, and his name was Wilder Jennings."
Hearing the surname Jennings, Ophelia felt it was even more of a coincidence. How could it be so coincidental that they both had the surname Jennings? Could Lance have some connection to her father? Based on their ages, could they be father and son?
Ophelia knew very well that Dovie only had one child, which was her. How could there be another child? Ophelia suddenly had a bold guess that her biological father might not be dead. 'It was said that back then, the corpse of her father hadn't been found. How could they be sure he was really gone?' She thought.
Thinking of this, Ophelia felt a mix of excitement and melancholy.
'If Dad is alive, why hadn't he returned to New York all these years? Did he abandon Mom?' She was confused.
Ophelia took a few of Dovie's belongings from the room and went downstairs.
Niamh, looking timid and weak, sat upright on the sofa, being questioned by Finnegan.
Niamh just wanted to stay alive, so she didn't reveal any secrets.
Finnegan didn't get much out of her. Niamh only admitted that she knew she wasn't Dovie's daughter and that she had just found out she was Natalie's daughter.
Niamh claimed that Natalie also deceived her. The impersonation was all of Natalie's plan, and she was unaware of that.
