Chapter 653 Farewell
Lloyd was stunned.
'Did Susan really pass away?' he thought.
The moment he saw the news of Susan's death, Lloyd felt deflated. The hatred for Susan was what had driven him to establish Moonlight Gate and oppose the Abbott family.
He harbored the belief that she was responsible for the demise of his parents, hypocritically taking him in as her own and concealing his true lineage for decades. It wasn't until he was well into his fifties that he finally unraveled the mystery of his actual hometown.
All his tragedies were caused by Susan. He couldn't believe she died just like that.
He thought Susan hadn't given him justice yet; she couldn't die.
The more Lloyd thought about it, the angrier he became. He picked up a gun and fired several shots at the target in front of him to vent his anger.
The assassins of Moonlight Gate nearby didn't dare to make a sound.
With a sniper rifle in hand, Lloyd discharged a series of calculated shots.
Through clenched teeth, he issued a chilling command, "Head back to Yorkhaven and see to Susan's departure."
This wasn't a send-off; it was to cause trouble.
In Yorkhaven, Susan was secretly sent to Verdant Villa, while the Abbott family mansion was already holding a funeral, with the coffin placed in the hall.
Jude and Celia were crying uncontrollably in front of the coffin.
Oscar found it hard to accept Susan's sudden death as well.
He used to complain that Susan was unfair, favoring Finnegan and being harsh on him.
But now that she was gone, Oscar felt very sad.
Many guests had already come to pay their respects, and Finnegan was also in the mourning hall.
Ophelia, holding Warmie, knew Susan was fine, but with such a big scene, she wonder how could they wrap it up as it looked so real.
Ophelia didn't dare to make a sound; she trusted Finnegan and Susan.
Raymond had already placed plainclothes police around the Abbott family mansion. As soon as Lloyd showed up, he wouldn't be able to escape.
Guests came one after another, and the atmosphere was very oppressive.
Finnegan walked over to Ophelia and whispered, "You take Warmie and go back first."
He thought Warmie didn't need to stay here all the time.
Ophelia nodded. "Then I'll go check on Grandma Susan."
Finnegan nodded, also worried that Susan might be bored at Verdant Villa.
Ophelia left with Warmie quietly, without anyone noticing.
When Ophelia arrived at Verdant Villa, Susan was eating a hearty meal while watching the surveillance on her computer.
The surveillance footage showed the Abbott family mansion, with a group of guests attending her funeral.
The feeling of watching people attend her funeral while still alive was indeed unusual.
"Grandma Susan," Ophelia said, holding Warmie.
"Ophelia, feeling hungry? Join me for a meal. It's no fun eating by myself," Susan chirped cheerfully, playfully teasing Warmie with a chicken leg. "Come on, Warmie, say 'great-grandma'!"
Warmie, in the oral stage, opened her mouth at the sight of food, but with only a couple of teeth, she ended up with a mouthful of oil.
Susan laughed heartily, and Warmie giggled along.
Ophelia sat down with a smile and noticed that Susan was watching the surveillance of the Abbott family mansion.
The footage was directly facing the hall where the coffin was placed, with Susan's portrait on the table.
Ophelia was truly impressed that Susan could eat so heartily while looking at her own portrait.
Many people feared death, but Susan was very calm about it.
"Grandma Susan, have some water," Ophelia said, pouring Susan a glass of water.
Susan took a sip of her drink and, glancing at the surveillance footage, remarked, "Celia shows me a lot of respect, shedding tears. She has repaid the care I gave her all these years. And look at Jude, crying his heart out, not the prettiest sight. He's been a crier from way back, even as a child. Unlike Lloyd, who never shed a tear. Even when he erred and faced consequences, he'd never own up. Stubborn as can be, that one, from the get-go."
Talking about Lloyd made Susan feel uneasy.
She was eating and drinking to ease her mind. After all, she had raised Lloyd herself and had deep feelings for him.
Susan was using herself as bait. Once Lloyd took the bait, what awaited him was prison.
