Chapter 163 Mother-in-law Trouble
As Dovie was skilled at reading people, she sensed a subtle tension between Ophelia and Celia, as if... they knew each other?
Celia placed her coffee cup on the table and said with a cold expression, "Dovie, your employee really knows how to talk."
Dovie perceived Celia's dislike towards Ophelia and playfully changed the subject, "Ophelia, your ring looks beautiful on your finger. Wearing it on the ring finger means... you're married?"
Dovie initially intended to change the topic, but then she really noticed the wedding ring.
Rings mustn't be worn haphazardly. Men wear it on the left hand, while women wear it on the right hand's ring finger, symbolizing marriage.
Ophelia honestly replied, "Um, yes, I'm married. We got the certificate a couple of days ago."
"Congratulations!" Dovie realized and smiled, "I remember now. No wonder you took a day off yesterday. Marriage is a big event, and it's only right. Ophelia, one day off isn't enough. Nowadays, girls all care about having a honeymoon. So, whenever you plan to have one, let me know, and I'll approve your leave."
The CEO was so considerate and thoughtful. A warm feeling passed through Ophelia's heart, and she responded, "CEO, we don't have any plans for a honeymoon at the moment. Thank you for your concern."
Dovie really liked Ophelia, and when she heard that Ophelia was married, she felt genuinely happy for her. She continued with concern, "Ophelia, what does your husband do? Does he treat you well? What's his character like? Does he treat you nicely? When will the wedding reception be held? Make sure to invite me for a toast then."
Hearing this, Ophelia subconsciously glanced at Celia.
Celia's expression was strange, and she secretly gestured to Ophelia, warning her not to speak carelessly and not to reveal that she married Finnegan.
Ophelia smiled faintly and said to Dovie, "CEO, my husband treats me very well. It's just that my relationship with my mother-in-law isn't great. We haven't had the wedding reception yet, but my husband said it's in the works. When the time comes, I'll definitely invite the CEO for a toast."
These words were intentionally spoken by Ophelia for Celia to hear.
Upon hearing Ophelia boldly mentioning the strained relationship between her and her mother-in-law and the ongoing preparations for the wedding reception, Celia couldn't sit still and blurted, "What wedding reception?"
Celia's reaction was so strong that Dovie, puzzled, looked at her, "Of course, you have to hold a wedding reception when you get married. A girl only gets married once, and you must wear a wedding dress. How can you not have a wedding reception?"
As she spoke, Dovie turned to look at Ophelia again, "Is your in-laws' financial situation not good? Can't they afford a wedding reception?"
Hearing this, Ophelia almost couldn't help but laugh. This statement not only implied that her in-laws didn't agree to have a wedding but also pointed out that it was due to their poverty.
Dovie didn't know that Ophelia's in-laws were from the Abbott's Family. She didn't know that Celia was Ophelia's mother-in-law. Celia didn't want Dovie to know about Finnegan's marriage, so she could only hold her breath in silence.
Ophelia forced herself not to laugh and glanced at Celia out of the corner of her eye. She said to Dovie, "My in-laws' finances are not a problem..."
Ophelia intentionally stopped talking.
Dovie understood, "So it's your mother-in-law who is the problem."
Upon hearing this, Celia immediately looked at Dovie with a disgusted expression, unable to spit out her words or swallow them back. What was wrong with her as a mother-in-law?
Celia was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She sarcastically said, "If you ask me, if the husband's family is not happy, it must be the wife's problem. Ophelia, how much did your engagement ring cost? Did you notify the groom's parents after you got a marriage certificate? You know that the groom's mother doesn't like you, so why did you still get married? Are you only after the groom's wealth?"
Celia's words were harsh and her tone was intimidating. She directed her criticism towards Ophelia, leaving Dovie unable to detect any clues. In that case, her position as CEO was pointless.
Dovie looked back and forth between Ophelia and Celia and said, "Celia, why are you so worked up? We are discussing Ophelia's in-laws, you're not even her mother-in-law. Why do you have such a strong reaction?"
