Chapter 746 Finnegan Becomes Suspicious
Celia's words had a tinge of dissatisfaction towards Lily, making Lynn blush with embarrassment.
Finnegan's face darkened. "Mom."
Celia got the hint. "Fine, fine. Lips are sealed."
For Warmie's sake, Celia stopped talking.
Lynn noticed Finnegan's injured hand and asked, "Ouch, did you get yourself there? You should take care of that."
"It's no biggie." Finnegan pressed a tissue to the wound, and the bleeding soon stopped.
Celia, trying to set up Finnegan with Lynn, suddenly said, "Shoot, gotta run! Totally forgot about your dad's appointment. Lynn, make yourself comfy and hang out with Warmie, okay?"
Her intention was clear, creating a chance for the two to be alone.
Both Finnegan and Lynn understood but didn't mind. Lynn felt shy, thinking life was like a play, sometimes dramatic. Celia had once tried to keep her and Finnegan apart, but now she was matchmaking them.
Finnegan didn't argue. Celia was impatient and often said extreme things.
"Mom, I might have to go out this afternoon, so come back early to take care of Warmie." Finnegan didn't trust the housekeeper and preferred a family member at home.
"Where are you going?" Celia guessed, "Are you planning to go to Oceanview City to find Ophelia? Finnegan, you can't spoil her. Don't chase after Ophelia right after she leaves."
"Didn't you say Dad has an appointment with you? Hurry up and go." Finnegan didn't want to say more.
Celia sighed, gave Lynn a meaningful look to seize the opportunity, and then left.
After Celia left, Finnegan peeled an apple, cut it into small pieces, and handed it to Warmie. He then chatted with Lynn, "How's your studio?"
"It's good," Lynn said. "It's busier during the summer and winter breaks since I'm teaching kids. When it's not a holiday, it's quieter because the kids are in school."
"That's good," Finnegan said. "Have some fruit."
"Okay." Lynn smiled and nodded.
The atmosphere was a bit awkward, with both of them speaking only occasionally.
Lynn wasn't as talkative as before. Thinking about what Lily had said, she felt a bit afraid to face Finnegan. She felt guilty, anxious, and worried, and also sad for Finnegan.
Lynn didn't dare to speak, as if her throat was sealed. She couldn't utter a word about the secret but was concerned about how far things had gone between Finnegan and Lily.
Lynn tentatively asked, "Are you still having issues with Ophelia?"
"No." Finnegan didn't admit it.
Lynn fell silent.
'Still trying to save face?' she thought.
Lynn awkwardly tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Celia just said Ophelia left. What does that mean?"
"She went to Oceanview City with Grandma," Finnegan said, looking at Warmie while occasionally guiding her drawing, gazing at Warmie gently.
Warmie sat next to Finnegan, occasionally taking a small bite of the apple, holding a crayon and drawing on a sketchpad.
Hearing that Lily and Susan had gone to Oceanview City, Lynn's heart skipped a beat.
'Isn't Lily afraid of being exposed? Why did Susan go along?' Lynn was confused.
"What are they doing in Oceanview City?" Lynn asked, "Who suggested going?"
Lynn was too concerned, and Finnegan glanced at her. "Lily's father is not well. Lily is Ophelia's savior, so it's natural for Ophelia to visit. Grandma went along to relax."
'Is that really the case?' Lynn thought.
She felt that Susan going along wasn't that simple.
Lily was already eager to get a divorce, so she wouldn't be too close to the Abbott family. "Does Susan know something?' Lynn guessed.
"Ophelia came to see me before," Lynn hesitated to say. "She told me she wanted to divorce you. Is that true? What do you think?"
The topic had reached the main point. Lynn wanted to probe Finnegan's thoughts. She was conflicted; hiding the truth from Finnegan was cruel, but telling him the truth was equally cruel.
"She blabbed to you too?" Finnegan asked, bitterness lacing his words. "What else'd she say?"
Lynn tightly clasped her hands and said, "She just told me that she couldn't live with you anymore and didn't want to keep hurting each other. I know how important Ophelia is to you, so I wanted to know your thoughts."
