Chapter 57 Deceiving Ophelia into Taking Medicine

Ophelia's phone was turned off.
On the way back, she felt too timid and worried about being contacted by the company for something else, so she decided to shut it down for some peace.
So Seraphina bringing in nutritional supplements was somewhat unexpected for Ophelia. The two had fallen out before, and even after reconciling, things didn't feel the same as they used to be.
Now, with Seraphina proactively delivering nutritional products, Ophelia felt a bit comforted, especially after just having lost her job.
Suddenly, Ophelia hugged Seraphina. "Seraphina."
"Ophelia, what’s wrong?" Seraphina asked. "Did something happen?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to hug you." Ophelia didn’t mention what had happened at the company. They used to share everything, but now, for some reason, she just couldn’t bring herself to talk about it.
"Ophelia," Seraphina spoke up, "why don’t you try these nutritional products? Remember to take them regularly; this is a special supplement for pregnancy care..."
She opened a box and took out a bottle of the supplement. "This is an import; it’s not available locally. I had someone buy it from abroad. It was expensive, but it's good for the baby, helps with skin health too."
Seraphina went through each nutritional product with one recurring theme – they were all expensive.
Whether it was imported or unavailable elsewhere, or simply costly, Ophelia listened with a gentle smile on her face, without interrupting Seraphina.
"Do you remember everything, Ophelia, or should I write it down for you? Take them on schedule and by the dosage," Seraphina suggested.
"I’ve got it all." Ophelia stood up. "Do you want to have dinner here tonight? I can go get some groceries; it's still early."
"No need, I'll just sit for a while and then leave," Seraphina said. "I have another friend who invited me shopping today, and I've already promised her that I’ll show up. You know, the person who asked me out is from a wealthy family. Her family sells electrical appliances, that very famous air conditioner brand..."
Seraphina, taking advantage of living in Orchid Garden, had gotten to know some high-society ladies and heiresses through the villa complex.
Living in Orchid Garden and being treated like the lady of the house, with maids respectfully addressing her as Miss Kingsley, made everyone assume she was Finnegan's woman. They all wanted to curry favor with her and grow closer, often inviting her out for shopping trips.
Ophelia didn’t say much more. "Okay."
Having lost her job, she had hoped to have a good meal with Seraphina to ease her mood. In the past, whenever she was feeling down, Seraphina would be there to comfort her.
They used to support each other but now things were clearly different.
Seraphina hesitated before asking, "Ophelia, I've always wanted to ask you, who is the father of the baby?"
She actually had a suspicion but asked deliberately.
If it had been earlier, Ophelia would have told Seraphina already. But times had changed, and not knowing how to say it, she chose to remain silent.
Silence was Ophelia’s answer.
Seraphina pressed on, "Will you tell the baby's father? Do you not plan to let that man know about the baby's existence?"
Ophelia shook her head, "I don't have such plans for now."
Hearing this, Seraphina felt a surge of secret relief. She was worried that if Ophelia told Finnegan, it would ruin everything for her.
"If you decide to be a single mother, then don't ever tell that man. What if you go through all the trouble of giving birth, and in the end, he takes the baby away and doesn't want you?" Seraphina spoke alarmingly, "There are too many stories in the news about fathers trying to keep the child without the mother. Some men even fear being extorted by the women and refuse to acknowledge the child."
Ophelia looked at Seraphina and replied calmly, "How do you know they would take the child from its mother? I am the baby's mother; it's impossible for anyone to take away my child."
Worried that Ophelia might become suspicious, Seraphina said, "I'm just speculating based on the many stories like this in the news. Anyway, Ophelia, why don’t you try some of these supplements first?"
Seraphina eagerly took out various nutritional products, including vitamins, folic acid, and calcium tablets intended for pregnant women.
Pouring two calcium tablets for Ophelia, she added, "This calcium supplement is important since a deficiency can be severe for pregnant women. This one is good for you. It’s also imported and very expensive."
The phrase 'imported' was what Ophelia heard most from Seraphina. Though she didn't really want to take them, she didn’t want to waste Seraphina’s goodwill, so she still swallowed the pills.
Watching Ophelia take the pills put Seraphina at ease.
However, a flicker of guilt and malice passed through the depths of her eyes.
Because these were not calcium pills for pregnancy care at all—they were abortion-inducing drugs.
After boss's baby, she Escape
