Chapter 216 Pressured to Sell the House

When Magnus sat down next to Tobias, Tobias smiled and said, "Magnus, your mom and I have been in New York for a while now. At first, we thought the big city was great, but after staying here for a while, we want to go back to our hometown."

"Tobias, you want to go back to our hometown?" Magnus was surprised to hear this news. However, he also felt a slight sense of relief. The pressure during this time had been immense, and he had considered whether to let his parents go back to their hometown. However, he didn't feel comfortable bringing it up and hurting their feelings. As long as his parents wanted to stay in New York, he would work hard, take good care of them, and fulfill his duties as a son.

Tobias nodded. "We want to go back. It's too quiet here, and we don't have any relatives or friends. The stress of the megacity is too much. We see how hard you work, going out early and coming home late. It's not easy. Life in our small county is less stressful, and the cost of living is cheaper. People live their whole lives just seeking an easy life. There's no need to tire ourselves out. You are a descendant of the Cobb's Family, and naturally, you should return to your roots. Come back with us."

The words before touched Magnus deeply, but the latter part made his smile freeze. "Tobias, if you want to go back, I respect your decision. If you want to stay, I also respect that." Magnus didn't want to displease his father and purposely misunderstood, saying, "If you've made up your mind, I'll accompany you back and visit our hometown. I'll take a few days off work."

Tobias explained, "It's not taking time off; it's quitting your job. Quit your job and come back with us."

Magnus smiled awkwardly. "Dad, I've lived here for over twenty years. It's only here that I can have better development. My career has just started, and I can't go back with you. I'll come to visit you during the holidays."

"What development? Can't you develop in our hometown?" Tobias's face darkened, and his tone became stern. "You must come back with us. You are a descendant of the Cobb Family, and you should return to your roots. The whole family should go back. By then, we can buy a mansion in our county. Wouldn't that be much better than here?"

"Buy a mansion?" Magnus saw that his father was serious but didn't understand why he was making one demand after another. He asked, "Tobias, who suggested going back to our hometown? I'm afraid we can't afford to buy a mansion for now."

"There is nothing that money cannot buy. If you sell this house, you can buy a whole building in our hometown, even a mansion. Are you taking advantage of my lack of education and trying to deceive me?" Tobias's face turned ugly. "Magnus, let me tell you, I have experienced more in life than you can imagine. I have seen through your little tricks a long time ago. This house is not rented but bought. I have already confirmed with the real estate agent that it is worth more than ten million dollars."

Magnus's face also changed, and he stood up abruptly, realizing that his father was not only serious but also tough. "Tobias, how did you know?" Magnus immediately thought of the property certificate. "You looked at my property certificate?"

Tobias angrily said, "You think you can hide things from us? I am your father; there is nothing I can't see. You bought the house but lied to us, saying it was rented. What's the matter? Are you trying to deceive us? I am your father. We are your family, the closest people to you. Why would you be so guarded against us?"

"Tobias, that's not what I meant," Magnus explained. "I didn't intend to hide it from you. This house wasn't bought by me. It was a gift from a friend. I didn't plan to keep it. I'm just staying here temporarily, and I will return it to someone else in the future."

"You are still deceiving us. Someone gave you a house worth millions?" Tobias slapped the table in anger. "Magnus, you have disappointed me. Tomorrow, we will sell this house and return to our hometown. We will buy a villa in the town of the county and live together as a family. It will be great to have some money left to find a wife for your older brother. We can show our relatives that my son, Magnus, has succeeded and that I can live in a big mansion."

As a lawyer, Magnus's father knew little about the law. Hearing Tobias talk about buying a wife, Magnus was shocked. "Tobias, buying and selling women is a crime."
