Chapter 42 Seraphina Learns About Ophelia's Pregnancy
Finnegan's phone rang.
It was the people from the old mansion hurrying him. He didn't answer and immediately declined.
Finnegan glanced at Ophelia, "Hmm, I had a friend living here before. By the way, you should go to the hospital for a check-up. The company will reimburse you."
After such a serious car accident, Ophelia didn't even want to get checked.
Finnegan was worried about her having internal injuries. Sometimes, even if it seemed fine on the surface, vital organs might be damaged.
"Okay, thank you for your concern, Mr. Abbott."
Ophelia watched the car leave from the roadside, and only turned to go upstairs after it disappeared from sight.
It was almost four o'clock now, and Ophelia didn't go to the hospital. She felt there was no major problem; she just had a bruise on her knee from a knock. It was much better now.
Not long after Ophelia got home, Magnus called, "Ophelia, are you back from your business trip? I invited Seraphina over for dinner tonight. You two should sit down and clear things up."
Magnus didn't know about Ophelia's car accident.
Ophelia felt that she and Seraphina were now from two different worlds. Yesterday in City B, everything Seraphina said was filled with superiority, implying that Ophelia was not worthy to be her friend.
Ophelia refused, "I have nothing to say to her. I just got back."
"Ophelia, this time it was Seraphina who took the initiative to invite you. It seems she also wants to make up with you, that's why she asked me to invite you," Magnus said. "Am I just playing the middleman? Do you really want to fall out with each other?"
"She took the initiative to find you?" Ophelia was a bit confused about Seraphina, "She still has me blocked..."
As she spoke, Ophelia pulled up Seraphina's WhatsApp and sent an emoticon to test if she was still blocked.
The message was sent.
Had she been removed from Seraphina unblocked her?
Magnus asked on the phone, "Ophelia, does Seraphina still have you blocked?"
"No, she unblocked me," Ophelia said. "Then I'll also extend an olive branch and go to your place for dinner tonight."
"Good, I'll go buy groceries now. Come over early."
After hanging up, Ophelia took a shower, changed her clothes, and then headed to Magnus' place.
...
Magnus had just bought the groceries and arrived home when Seraphina arrived first.
"Hasn't Ophelia arrived yet?" Seraphina asked, setting down her designer bag and heading into the kitchen. "What's for dinner tonight? I'll help."
Although Seraphina had been acting cold towards Ophelia, she was quite friendly towards Magnus.
Magnus was her first crush, so naturally, she would behave her best in front of him and avoid causing any offense.
Magnus smiled warmly, "No need, you can just watch TV. Your outfit isn't cheap; it would be a shame to get it dirty in the kitchen."
Magnus didn't mean anything else by it; he simply thought that Seraphina's clothes were expensive and would be difficult to clean if they got dirty. Girls love to look pretty, after all.
Among the three of them, he always played the role of the older brother.
Since he was two years older than Ophelia and Seraphina, he naturally wanted to take care of them. However, to Seraphina, his tone had a hint of sarcasm.
"Magnus, you also think I was wrong last time, don't you? That I wronged that waiter," she said.
"Seraphina, that's not what I meant," Magnus said, feeling a bit puzzled. He laughed and explained, "I just think your clothes are pretty, and it would be a shame to get them dirty. How about you peel these shrimp? They've been cooked already. You can remove the veins and we can use them for a cold shrimp dish later. Ophelia loves it."
After hearing that it was for Ophelia, Seraphina felt a twinge of discomfort, but she didn't show it. "Magnus, did you prepare anything delicious for me? You didn't prepare everything for Ophelia, did you? Are there any crabs? I want to eat crabs."
Seraphina was doing this on purpose; she was subtly competing with Ophelia. If Ophelia was eating shrimp, she wanted to eat crab.
Magnus didn't catch the undertone in Seraphina's words and casually replied, "I didn't buy any crabs. If you like them, I'll get some for you next time."
"Always next time, Magnus. You're showing favoritism," Seraphina said half-jokingly, half-seriously. "Doesn't Ophelia also like crabs? You used to buy them before, so why not today?"
"Ophelia can't eat crabs now."
"Why can't she eat them?" Seraphina felt even more upset, realizing that Magnus didn't buy the crabs because Ophelia couldn't eat them.
Magnus didn't think much of it and simply said, " Ophelia is pregnant. Some types of seafood, like certain crabs, can be risky for pregnant women to consume due to potential parasites or bacteria."
