Chapter 511 Reluctant Heart
In just a short while, Caspian felt a bit nervous. He harshly reflected on himself. He thought he didn't saying anything too harsh to Tate.
Caspian, who has been in contact with so many women, couldn't understand. 'Tate had just said thank you earlier. How did things turn sour so quickly?' he thought.
A woman's heart is truly hard to fathom.
When Ophelia received a call from Caspian, she immediately called Tate.
Tate was on her way back to her residence when she saw Ophelia's call. After a moment of hesitation, Tate answered, "Ophelia."
"Tate, Caspian just said you left his house. I'm outside now. Go back to the Abbott family. I'll come back later." Ophelia was also very worried about Tate's injury.
"No need," Tate said coldly. "I won't go back to the Abbott family anymore, Ophelia. I'm sorry."
This sudden 'sorry' caught Ophelia off guard. Ophelia thought Tate might not want to be a bodyguard anymore. Taking a break after being injured was normal.
Ophelia smiled and said, "It's okay, take care of you.. If you need anything, feel free to call me anytime. Even if you're not a bodyguard anymore, we're still friends."
Tate's apology was for the upcoming task. She knew she could never truly be friends with Ophelia because Tate's task was to take Finnegan's life.
She used to be Finnegan's hired bodyguard, but now Moonlight Gate has ordered someone to buy Finnegan's life, and she must comply.
As an assassin, obedience was necessary.
When Tate secretly came out to find work as a bodyguard, she had already planned to leave Moonlight Gate in her heart. Thinking about what she would do in the future, she happened to see a job posting for a female bodyguard and impulsively decided to give it a try.
Tate didn't respond further and hung up the phone directly.
Tate's personality had always been like this, and Ophelia didn't think much of it. At this moment, Ophelia had just sent Wilder back to the Abbott family's old mansion and was preparing to go to Abbott's Corporation.
Unfortunately, when Ophelia arrived, Finnegan was in a meeting with all the company executives in the conference room. She stood outside for a while.
Linda brought a cup of coffee and said, "Mrs. Abbott, why don't you wait in the office? The meeting might not end for a while."
Finnegan saw Ophelia standing outside the conference room. They exchanged glances through the glass, understanding each other's thoughts.
Seeing this, Linda envied. "Mrs. Abbott, you and Mr. Abbott have a great relationship. I didn't see it before, nor did I expect you to become his wife. Mr. Abbott always seemed so cold. I've been with him for so many years and have never seen him show interest in anyone. I never thought Mr. Abbott would smile." Linda's words were not an exaggeration.
Ophelia smiled. "I used to be afraid of him, too."
Linda chuckled. "I can tell. I once asked you to deliver a file, and you were hesitant. I even teased you."
"At that time, indeed, when I saw Finnegan, it was like a mouse seeing a cat," Ophelia whispered. "Actually, he's a hypocrite. He's not like this at home. Seeing him sitting there all serious and scaring everyone into silence makes me want to pounce on him and tear off his mask."
Linda laughed and then quickly covered her mouth, afraid that other employees might hear, saying, "Mrs. Abbott, only you dare to do such a thing. I support you."
It was obvious that Mr. Abbott was definitely not like this at home.
Outside, Finnegan exuded a restrained aura. Standing there, his presence was overwhelming and awe-inspiring. Those who hadn't truly interacted with Finnegan were truly afraid. Ophelia was not afraid now. In her eyes, Finnegan was just a paper tiger.
"Linda, what are they discussing in the meeting today? What project requires so many top executives to gather here?" Ophelia inquired.
Linda shook her head. "I'm not sure, but it's definitely something big. Atticus would know."
Even though they both worked under Finnegan, their responsibilities differed, so not everyone knew everything.
Ophelia didn't ask further, knowing Finnegan was busy. She took a sip of coffee and told Linda, "I'll head back now." It was the same as waiting at home.
Watching Finnegan directing in the conference room, Ophelia's ambition began to stir again.
Opening a Mexican restaurant had been a passion project, but it wasn't what Ophelia truly wanted to do. Now that Warmie was born, Ophelia thought it was time to officially take over Parks Corporation and let Dovie rest assured.
As she left, Ophelia glanced back at Finnegan in the meeting room. For some reason, she just wanted to take one more look. Although they saw each other every day, she suddenly felt reluctant to leave.
It may be the tacit understanding between husband and wife. When Ophelia looked over, Finnegan also glanced at her.
Ophelia smiled and turned away.
And this turn also inexplicably unsettled Finnegan in the meeting room.
