Chapter 396 Finnegan is Rescued
Ophelia didn't waste words with Morgan because she knew how cunning he was.
She only had one life, and if she couldn't rescue Finnegan, she didn't mind losing it in France.
Seeing Ophelia speak so convincingly as if she really knew something, Morgan hesitated.
If this matter were to get out, it would become an international joke that French officials and local gangs conspired to frame an American businessman to disrupt the market and economy of the U.S.. It would add another stain to the reputation of France.
If things escalated, the U.S. officials would have a reason to intervene, and the situation would truly blow up.
Morgan hesitated. He couldn't believe he was losing to a woman, especially a pregnant woman with no apparent means of resistance.
Yet, such a beautiful and intelligent pregnant woman was irresistible to any man.
Morgan chuckled, "Ophelia if you really had evidence, why would you come to me? Why not go directly to the media?"
"As a woman, I just want my husband to come home." Ophelia placed a USB drive on the table. "I'm giving you and your partners some dignity. We have a saying in our country. 'Leave some room for others in everything you do.' But if you push us to the brink, we will fight to the death. If you don't believe me, you can try. Your country is not new to these kinds of dirty tricks."
The French often did bad things and blamed other countries.
They were experts at framing and setting up others.
Morgan inserted the USB drive into his computer and took a quick look. He immediately realized that Ophelia was serious.
"Ophelia, go back. I'll give you an answer soon." Morgan restrained his thoughts and temporarily didn't dare to harm Ophelia.
Ophelia knew that Morgan couldn't make the decision alone. He would surely report to his superiors.
"I'm giving you half an hour. I'm heading back to the police station now, which takes about twenty minutes. I want to see my husband at the police station entrance in half an hour."
After saying this, Ophelia turned and left.
As she walked out of the underground casino, Ophelia felt her legs feel weak, and Tate quickly stepped forward to support her.
"Ophelia, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Ophelia took a deep breath. "I was afraid Morgan wouldn't believe what I said. If he didn't care, I would have had to stay here today."
Ophelia was gambling with every second she spent in France.
She was betting her entire life's luck that Morgan and his backers wouldn't choose to lose the bigger picture for a small gain.
Ophelia returned to the police station and waited at the entrance.
She anxiously watched the time. Half an hour had passed. Could it be that Morgan and his people decided not to release Finnegan?
Just as Ophelia was about to despair, a familiar figure walked out of the police station.
It was Finnegan.
The two locked eyes and Ophelia ran towards him. "Honey."
Finnegan also ran towards Ophelia. "Ophelia."
Ophelia's eyes reddened, and her nose tingled. As she fell into his arms, the fear and anxiety she had endured over the past few days finally subsided.
Holding him made her feel secure.
Finnegan looked a bit messy, his clothes dirty, and a stubble covering his chin, lacking his previous elegance.
Seeing Ophelia safe and sound, Finnegan's heart settled. He didn't blame her for coming to France.
Knowing she had arrived, he had been terrified all night, unable to sleep.
"Silly woman." Finnegan hugged her, his eyes also moist.
He felt incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful wife.
"Let's go back to the hotel." Ophelia held his hand, her face beaming. With him by her side, she feared nothing, even if the sky were to fall.
Tate opened the car door. "Finnegan."
Finnegan held Ophelia's hand as they got into the car. Back at the hotel, Atticus was ecstatic.
Atticus almost cried. "Finnegan, it's so great that you're out."
Finnegan patted Atticus's shoulder. "Thank you for your hard work."
He could imagine the effort Atticus had put into helping him out in France, which wasn't their territory.
"It's my duty." Atticus said, feeling guilty. "But I couldn't really help much."
Ophelia smiled, "You can help now by getting the hotel to prepare some food."
Finnegan had lost a lot of weight during his time inside.
"Sure, I'll get right on it." Atticus happily went to arrange it.
Ophelia went to run a bath for Finnegan. "Honey, take a bath and change into clean clothes. I'll tell the family the good news."
