Chapter 329 No Mercy, No Softness
Magnus' words were enough to shock Ophelia.
'Natalie is her biological mother?' She was confused.
Ophelia couldn't believe it. "How is this possible? How could it be her? How did you know that?"
Magnus said, "I went to see Hollis before. She revealed that Natalie went to the orphanage to find you and inquired about your information. There is a birthmark on your waist, which, as Hollis said, is the same as Natalie's daughter."
Ophelia was stunned as she recalled Natalie's previous strange behavior and thought of Magnus' peculiarities before. Everything seemed to have an explanation.
"No wonder." She whispered.
'No wonder Natalie deliberately knocked over the sauce bowl. When she lifted her clothes at that time, she wanted to see the birthmark on her waist.'
'No wonder Magnus kept asking about Natalie's daughter.' She pondered.
"Isn't she unmarried and childless?" Ophelia thought it ironic that her biological mother would be the indifferent Natalie. "Finnegan asked his mom and confirmed that Natalie is unmarried and childless."
Magnus said, "I guess that Natalie may have some untold secrets, afraid to face you."
'What untold secrets could there be?'
'There is only one reason, which is that she is an illegitimate daughter and Natalie is afraid to reveal it.' She thought.
"Okay, I got it." Ophelia appeared calm on the surface, while her heart already in turmoil.
As this news was too sudden for her, she needed time to digest it.
She also longed for family affection underneath, but if that person was Natalie, she felt that some things were better left unknown.
If Natalie was really her mother and unwilling to acknowledge her, she would naturally respect her choice.
After Magnus left, Ophelia sat in the garden downstairs, her heart in turmoil.
Betrayal of a friend, the truth of her origins, everything caught her off guard.
She didn't know how long had passed when someone approached her.
She glanced sideways, and Finnegan sat down beside her.
Exhausted mentally, she rested her head on his shoulder.
"When you went to see her, what did she say?"
"She admitted it." Finnegan said, "She's already at the police station."
If Seraphina hadn't grown up with Ophelia, Seraphina couldn't have been implicated with her complete body.
Finnegan had been lenient in punishing Seraphina.
Ophelia's expression slightly stiffened. She tried to control her emotions and asked in a steady tone, "Did she say why?"
Finnegan's arm around her waist, he felt her body tense for a moment. 'The betrayal of a friend was a blow to her.' He thought.
"It's all past; severyone has to pay the price for their actions." Finnegan's voice was cold and emotionless. "It's already a bargain for her to be fully implicated."
When Finnegan sent Mason to prison, he even broke one of Mason's arm, getting back at him fiercely for fairness.
As Seraphina had harmed his child, the grudge was greater; Finnegan had already been restrained not to throw Seraphina down the stairs just now.
Ophelia straightened up, exhaled a breath, and asked, "How many years will she be sentenced to?"
"At least eight years." Finnegan's eyes were cold. "Life will teach her something that can't be taught by others."
Ophelia didn't ask anything more. She lowered her eyes and said, "From the moment she impersonated me, we could never go back; everything has changed."
One won't covet if he or she didn't possess.
When one lost what they once had, resentment would arise in his or her heart.
What Ophelia couldn't understand was why Seraphina harbored such great resentment towards her, to the extent of taking such risks to make her suffer.
At that moment, Finnegan's phone rang. It was Celia calling. Dovie had come to the hospital to visit Ophelia, but since Ophelia wasn't actually hospitalized, when Dovie arrived and didn't see her, she would naturally inquire.
Celia then called the two back to the hospital room.
Finnegan said, "Mom, tell Dovie that I'll take Ophe back home."
Since Seraphina had confessed and the culprit had been found, there was no need for Ophelia to stay in the hospital anymore.
As Old Abbott wouldn't be discharged for a while and with so many people waiting in the hospital, he would take Ophelia back to Rose Garden first.
Upon hearing that Dovie had come to the hospital, Ophelia remembered what Magnus had said. She grabbed Finnegan's hand and said, "Since Dovie came to visit, I should meet her; she was kind to me before. Now that she heard I am in trouble and hurried to the hospital to visit, it wouldn't be good if I don't see her."
